Re: Princess Diana Exhibit at Downtown Disney

I visited something similar that was in Lakeland last year. It was a collection of her dresses and it was very nicely done. This exhibit sounds like it's going to be more than just the dresses, which will make it even better. And it's not a permanent thing... it's only running through November. I'll definitely check it out.

I am not exactly fond of utilizing such a large space unless all or most of it is actually going to be used. I fear it will make the exhibit look like a crutch to fill a mass of vacant space.

I wish we had time to visit when we are there. I greatly admire Princess Diana. She was a wonderful woman.

I hope someone will do a trip report.

Re: Princess Diana Exhibit at Downtown Disney

I'll be there in 2 weeks! If it's open when I'm there and I go to Downtown Disney, I'll post a trip report.

I voted "good"; at least they can use the Megastore building for something until they find a permanent tenant, and if Pleasure Island is any indication, that may take a while. However, I think this exhibit may be a little somber for the context of Downtown Disney, and it may have been better suited for the United Kingdom pavilion at the increasingly-stale World Showcase.

I jsut don't get how this is Disney related or even appropriate for Disney? I don't get it.

I don't mind the exhibit itself (and would see it elsewhere!) but I don't see how it would fit in.

Re: Princess Diana Exhibit at Downtown Disney

Seems like a very strange fit for Downtown Disney. Perhaps for Paris, but not for WDW. Hmmmm.

Re: Princess Diana Exhibit at Downtown Disney

The only positive I see in this is that an empty building won't be empty temporarily. But, I still think it's a bad fit and not worth the admission.

I will not be going.

If this is indeed the dress exhibit; it is very nice. I agree; it seems to be out of place, but who knows. I saw the dress exhibit several years ago at the Precious Moments museum in MO. Not sure how that fit into the theme there, but it was nice to view.

Re: Princess Diana Exhibit at Downtown Disney

Virgin is a British company and it's founder is Richard Branson - who, from what I've read was a friend of the late Princess of Wales. He loaned her his private island (Necker) for vacations. Maybe this display is making the rounds to all the Virgin Superstores. Having been an admirer of Diana's, I would like to see this display but I think that probably won't happen. BTW- she did bring her boys to Disney parks - somewhere there is a picture of them at the top of the big drop on Splash Mountain.
As far as whether or not it is appropriate for Disney - these parks are the home of fairytale princesses, pirates and fantasy - where else would you pay tribute to the most famous princess in the world?

Re: Princess Diana Exhibit at Downtown Disney

I'm not sure it 'fits', not because it's not Disney, but just because a traveling tribute/memorial/museum of memorabilia seems out of place in a themepark shopping zone.
