That's the rumor, along with a new movie (finally). Unfortunately, it's still iffy and only rumors as of now.

I'm still hoping for this more than anything else as well, with the possible exception of the Fantasyland redo.

Re: What new rides for 2011

Star Tours II is the best hope for a new ride by 2011 (a new hope, ha ha) at this point, because we know it is in development. But then I read a piece (I think it was by Al Lutz?) saying that the Orlando managers PASSED on STII, which would be unfathomable idiocy if true. I just hope they prove him wrong, wake up and smell the coffee, something!

I might well bypass WDW in 2011-12 and go straight to DLR. Star Tours II, Little Mermaid, Cars Land, like I said, snap out of your stupor, Orlando!

It's Orlando so they'll get absolutely nothing new of note.

OH be fair, I'm sure we'll get a McPlayland or something like that.

Last thing I heard was Imagination wouldn't get a new movie. Something about valuable ride space....

If only they could get rid of Stiches Great Escape in time for the 40th!

Sometimes I find it hard to keep up with all the rumors. I'd gladly accept that though!

That came from a valuable source. Of course, it might not happen, but it is good to know they are looking at all the options...including upstairs.

Re: What new rides for 2011

Perhaps Disney World's decision to pass on Star Tours II was to have more room in the budget for the Monster's Inc. coaster, which is sure to be very very expensive. Also, I'm assuming that a new Monster's Inc. attraction would bring more people back to the park than an updated version of Star Tours would. Besides, Star Wars fans will keep coming every May for Star Wars Weekends, so it's not like they will lose money from them.

I'm not saying I don't want Star Tours II. On the contrary, I'm a big Star Wars fan and can't wait to see what they've done. However, like the Tiki Room and Small World, it's kind of nice to have different versions between the two U.S. parks. Maybe Disney World will be known for having the original while other parks around the world will get the new reason. After all, the number one complaint that I hear from Dineyland fans is that any worthy new attraction they get is cloned for Disney World.

Plus, what if you don't like the new version? Disney has proven that updated attractions don't always equal better attractions, although they certainly capable of doing a great job.

To sum it up, it might be a good thing that Disney World keeps Star Tours I.

I heard about upstairs also, but I'm also skeptical until I see construction walls go up. I am very hopeful about this though, as it seems to be one thing that has been talked about a lot in other places.

Star Tours 2.0 is in the mix for WDW. Perhaps the closest item to getting a green light too.

I didn't know anything about this but would def be in favor. The current incarnation of Journey is beyond LAME.

Star Tours 2.0 is def needed. I've had just about enough trips to Endor in my life. From what I've heard, they were talking about the refurb of Star Tours having different scenarios and endings. So every time you rode the attraction you were experiencing something different. I personally loved this idea as simulators can get monotonous over time.

Has anyone heard anything about a Villians rollercoaster for the Fantasyland refurb. A source down in florida told me that this idea had been thrown about that was all I heard about it.

From what I've read, the Villain Mountain/Bald Mountain concept has been dead for quite some time.

I guess Tony Baxter should get this concept to "rise from the grave" for the Magic Kingdom. Anyway, the villian attraction feels more at home, at the studios with Fantasmic and stuff.

Re: What new rides for 2011

I'm don't think a villians attraction will ever happen. The villians hit their peak in popularity about 5 years ago and since then, it has waned considerably (at least it seems that way in the parks). The walk arounds are rarely ever sent out, except at Halloween, and other then a gift shop at DHS and a candy store at Downtown Disney, they are not well represented. I remember when I first heard of the Bald Mountain attraction, I was 15 and the cast member who told me about it said it was going to be a whole park devoted to villains, if you can believe that. I know I didn't.
