Sad Another Cast Member Death at WDW.

Disney performer dies days after performance fall -- OrlandoSentinel.com
Walt Disney World cast member passed away today, after being injured in a fall at the Magic Kingdom theme park last week.

Mark Priest was a performer in the "Pirates Tutorial" show at the park, where performers lead audience members in a series of pirate tasks. Priest reportedly fell during the show on Thursday, breaking his neck.
Disney officials told the Orlando Sentinel that they had no indication that Priest's injuries were life-threatening. OSHA and the Orange Country Sheriff are now investigating. This is the second death of a Walt Disney World cast member in an on-the-job incident this summer, following the monorail crash that claimed the life a a monorail driver last month.
Very sad. Heart goes out to the family.

I was thinking that too then I found a bigger story on orlandosentinel.com. It says on the OrlandoSentinel.com that he fell on a wet spot on the stage and hit the wall. He had a broken vertebra in his neck and a cut that required 55 stitches to his scalp. =/

Very sad. Always upsetting when entertaining shows like this end in such tragedy.

When I first heard that a performer had fallen and broke his neck I was wondering if it was one of the stilt performers or someone from Block Party Bash. I was surprised to hear it was from the Pirate Tutorial. That is just very freaky. And considering how many performances they have a day that require a lot of physical activity (shows and parades) it is a little surprising that injuries like this don't happen more often.

That said, this is very tragic and sad. My heart goes out to the family and friends.

Re: Another Cast Member Death at WDW.

I just came into the office this morning, and received this email from a co-worker here:

Today, I prayed for the swift recovery Mark Priest at our prayer luncheon. He was working at the Pirate Tutorial show at Magic Kingdom on Thursday and fell head first into a brick wall. Among other injuries, he required 55 stitches to his head and broke his neck in 3 places, though did not experience any paralysis. This afternoon, I received word that he experienced complications from a blood clot and passed away at the hospital.

Mark was a member of our church, and also belonged to the mid-week Bible study Monica and I lead. He was dear to everyone who knew him. Monica and I, and the many others whose life he touched, will mourn his loss. Please remember our church family in your prayers. He was not married nor had children, but both his parents came into town today to assist in his care and recovery from his injury. Little did they know they would be arriving for his memorial. I am not sure of his age, but I believe he was in his 40s.

Prayers, hugs and pixie dust to his family in friends.

If it's the show I think it is.. there isn't a stage at all! The only pirate show I'm aware of is the one they do at ground level to the left of POTC along the edge of the walkways.

Similar to this incarnation of the show

The OS article has more details
The fall took place during Priest's first performance Thursday morning, Priest told Breslauer. The actor playing Captain Jack Sparrow was supposed to kick Priest's character, Mack, in the buttocks at the end of a sword fight.

When Priest stepped afterward, he slid on a wet patch and careened headlong into a wall, Breslauer said. He was bleeding and could barely see, but he left the stage quickly so children would not be upset.

Flynn, they recently built a proper stage for this show.

And it was CM who played Mack.

I fixed my link. I copy/pasted from my iPhone and it was the iPhone optimized version of Bay New 9's website. Duh.

Really? anything more then a 8-10" rise or something? I didn't stop to watch the show while on my last trip in June, but I saw them in the same place and didn't notice much different from looking over the crowd.

Edit: ahh I see it was added just in July.. that makes sense

Wow. Makes me thankful that nothing has happened with all the stilt performers for the C!ASP on main street.

RIP. At least he lived a relatively long life.
