The Miffles' Not So Scary Halloween Party Trip (photo intensive)

After having a great time at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party last year, we knew we'd go again someday. And then, things worked out to make that someday the first party once again this year. This time, several more of our friends decided to come with us. For a while, we debated between returning as the Hat Box Ghost and Tightrope Girl along with several other Haunted Mansion characters, then we thought about being a group of Disney villains, but eventually the theme got loosened all the way to just being a group of Disney characters.

After a night of sleep that was more like a nap, everyone met at our place at 5:00 a.m. and we headed to the airport. We had enough time to check in at All Star Movies, head to downtown Disney for a quick lunch, a very short look around, and then back to the resort to start getting prepared for the night.

After waiting way too long in the hot sun for our bus, it finally arrived and we made it to the Magic Kingdom at last. We weren't three steps away from the bus before a few of us were being asked for pictures.

So let's get right to the costumes, shall we? Our travelling band included...



Me as Gaston.



My wife, Christa, as Alice.



Caroline as Ursula.



Emily as Snow White's old hag.



Krinn as Sally.



Diana as Tiger Lily.



Here we are, shortly after having arrived at the party.

Since Emily was disguised as the old hag, she was hoping to find a pin of the character sometime during the trip. When I found one almost right away on the cast member at the tip board, we felt like it might be a sign we were in for a lot of good fortune.


After a few more pictures at the hub, it was time for a trip though the Haunted Mansion.

Then, since we wanted to get a few more photo ops in Fantasyland while the sun was still out, we headed through that land.


Tiger Lily looks forward to riding Peter Pan's flight... when the line gets shorter.


The old hag wonders why it’s called Snow White's Scary Adventures when she's clearly the star of the attraction.



Gaston looks forward to Gaston's Tavern setting up show in Fantasyland, but for now poses in front of Pinocchio's Village Haus.


And keeps on posing, of course.



Alice is ready for a spin in some tea cups.

But Alice is right at home.

Sadly, Belle was not available in her Toontown tent. But this was...



Gaston is not sure how to feel about this merchandise.

Thanks! We did get a decent amount of candy, taking a trip down Alice and the Mad Hatter's Treat Party and stopping at a few of the candy locations, but mostly concentrated on the other party activities, riding a few rides, interacting with other guests, and taking a million pictures.

The party starts early in both senses of the word. September 4 makes it earlier than last year's previous record start by one day.

Early in the day too: one of the secrets of Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is that, though the official start time of the event is 7:00 p.m., they will let ticketholders start entering the park as early as 4:00 p.m. (though event-specific things like trick-or-treating, special lighting, event characters and such still don't start until 7:00).

How does it work if you are already in the park? Do you have to go back to the front and present your MNSSHP ticket and get your wristband? I'm just curious because we are picking up annual passes on my birthday (great birthday gift), and I wondered how exactly they handle guests who are already in the park for the rest of the day, but also have MNSSHP tickets.

We had a blast.

If you're already in the park for the day, you will have to pick up a wristband, sometime after 4:00. I'm not sure if the front of the park is the only place to pick them up or if they also have them at the treat locations.

Anyone over 10 years old (I believe that's the cut-off age, though I doubt they're too strict on a year or two older) planning on wearing costumes, though, should be warned that they wouldn't be able to wear them inside the park before 4:00 p.m.

More friends arrive: we connect with our pals Sarah as Russell the Wilderness Explorer and Jeremy as Carl Fredrickson from "Up" (complete with stuffed Dug). Russell was constantly trying to trick Carl into being assisted ("May I hold this door for you, sir?" "May I help you cross the hub?").



So, it was time for another group shot.

Another friend arrived as Doug's Quail Man alter ego. Somehow I never got a solo shot of that, though you can see him in several of the group photos that follow.

After a quick, convenient dinner at Cosmic Rays, it was back out for more of the party. We met up with the Tremaine family, holding court in what is normally Belle's story area.



Please note Gaston's face indicates he is not prepared to trade Belle for Drizella.


As the night finally begins to grow dark, the poison apple begins to glow!



And attracts the eye of a little Snow White.

At this point, it seems like our Alice is hogging all the good photo opps, right? My picture with the tiny Belle was nice, but I'd like to meet some more Beauty and the Beast characters too. And then, I got to have my picture taken with something better than I'd ever hoped:



Baby Gaston! This made me so happy.

"Finally," I said. "I get to have a picture with someone as good-looking as I am!"
