Re: Meet The World and Eternal Seas in Epcot.

Actually now I'm thinking an attraction with Whoopi Goldberg as a Japanese goddess telling the story of Japan's history.

It's quite something how Japan rose from the ashes like a Phoenix.

Well, that could very much apply to all of us. When we are out and down.. most times that is all the incentive we need to get up and be better and strive for the best goals. After the blow we suffered back in 9/11/2001, we should know better because we know how it feels to be down and out, and see how much we have gained as a nation from that disgusting day.

From I have read, that it was these two things(maybe even more) on why it didn't come to Epcot: 1)It presented a bad repensentation of Japan and 2)It showed World War 2 in bad way.

Again. There was no mention of World war 2 in the show. Trust me. I saw it several times. Don't be gullible and believe every rumor someone who probably never saw the show started for fun. Like I said.. MTW was a boring show, which didn't help it's cause or popularity.

The feel of the show was more condecending than entertaining... with narrations that sometimes gave the impressions that the japanese were close minded and did not want to mix and mingle with other cultures.. At least that was the impression I always got from that show (and I saw it several times until its retirement) and never saw anything in it to believe there were references to World War 2, not even implied.
That's what I mean by "glossing over"... I've seen videos of the show and there's no mention of it at all except for something like (generalizing here), "In the 40's some bad stuff happened, but we're not going to talk about it. Moving on..." So it shows Japan in a bad light, which would not go over with with folks in the US. And on top of that, the Japanese people found the show dull for the most part, so that was another nail in the coffin.

Re: Meet The World and Eternal Seas in Epcot.

Maybe they were talking about the bad productions in Kabuki Theater in the 40's?

Hey, ok off topic here, but, how do you say "Your reputation is overrated" in Japanese?

I think they call it "american pop culture" over there. But this compoundes even more my opinions about Disney and politics. They should keep these political shows off the parks. Good riddance to MTW, and frankly.. if they took down HoP and AA at EPCOT, I'd be happy too.

Politics really don't belong in theme parks.
