Walt Disney World - IN 3D!

After a trip to WDW, I've often wished there was some way to feel like you're still right there in the parks, while at the same time developing a massive, splitting headache. Then it hit me: 3D stereograms!

So during my visit last week, my trusty camera in hands, I made some. (These are the cross-your-eyes kind of stereograms, not the focus-on-the-horizon type.)

Here are some handy instructions to get you started...

Good luck, and don't forget the aspirin!

First, the Magic Kingdom, with its singing, dancing ode to the movie the Walt Disney Company does not want you to see ever again:

Evil Emperor Zurg, determined to destroy all that is good in the universe. Also, for $20 he'll sell you a souvenir photograph of your trip to Florida:

Liberty Square, with its classic celebration of audio-animatronic evil. And when you're done with the Hall of Presidents, be sure to visit the Haunted Mansion!

Why the devil is always an hour late:

Toontown Fair Railroad Station. I think there's a blue and yellow heffalump hiding in the trees!

Look out! I hear Zombie Walt's got an iron grip!

Who hasn't longed to revisit Monorail Pillar #65?

Giant statue at the Polynesian Resort. They've only unearthed the head so far.

On to Epcot, where at the Land, they celebrate the Sky (don't forget to visit Soarin'!):

Journey into Abomination, where there's never any waiting to wonder what the heck happened to the favorite Epcot ride from your childhood!

Hundreds of tiny Chinese tourists, recently discovered beneath the China Pavilion (actual size):

Down by the Boardwalk. I highly recommend this swim; Cast Members come out from all over to wave and shout their support!

The Dolphin, obviously named for the building's shape, a tall and pointy...dolphin:

Off to MGM Hollywood Studios, where you'll look anywhere to avoid that awful hat:

And where a Mickey Shrubbery performs the opening scene from the Sound of Music (ignore the landscaping crew):

Well, I hope that wasn't too painful... (The headache will clear up after a few days, I swear!)

Nicely done! Was that with one camera or two on a stereo mount?

Re: Walt Disney World - IN 3D!

It does not work for me. I still see two separate pictures and no 3D effect.

It's all about relaxing your eyes TDL. The way I get it to work is I focus on the center where the two photos meet and then I make my eyes pull the two pictures together. It's like those 3D pictures that were all the rage in the 90's, but I've always been able to see this stuff with no problem. I imagine this works with the exact same photo, you just need to put 2 of the same side by side instead of 2 separate photos.

Man, I wish I had depth perception so I could see these in 3d!

Were they hard to do?

They're a little too large for the spacing, but I stood back and made them work - great job! Walt's statue really jumps forward at me!

Thanks! Just one camera. There were some complications with wind, clouds, and anything with water...

Interesting! I was there two weeks later.

That'll teach you to cross his lawn!

Smaller versions of the pictures are probably available on their respective flickr pages, in case that might help people see the 3D...

I find it easiest to pick out something that stands out, like the weird tree thing on top of Splash Mountain, then start crossing your eyes slowly until the two versions of the tree thing overlap, then hold it. The rest of the picture usually pops into 3D right away!
