More Pirates in Adventureland

I've been thinking about the lameness of The Jungle Cruise and the enormous potential of the Pirates franchise for the parks. And IMO, the Jungle Cruise ought to be done away with - altogether. It's time has come and passed, and there's no way to make the ride seem less of a relic, less of an old joke, than it is. So why not replace it with a Pirates-type ride? You could use the same layout - a boat heading into hazardous waters - but add a whirlpool, a kraken, the Black Pearl, and have the boat's captain be a pirate trying to evade the Captain Beckett and the East India Trading company. (Plenty of opportunity for some great CM acting and comedy there). There could be some cannon fire, a spooky part of the ride with the aforementioned Kraken and a skeleton crew trying to get the pirate's treasure (which is onboard). At the end of the ride everyone would get a necklace with a medallion resembling the cursed Pieces of Eight as a souvenir.

IMO, Disney is not using the Pirates franchise enough in their parks. And to me, THAT property is more far more able to compete with Universal's Harry Potter than the Princesses meet-and-greet stuff. And it's pure Disney, not a purchased property like Marvel heroes or Power Rangers. There's a thread over at the Disneyland board asking "What would you do if you were President of the Disneyland Board of Directors?" Well, change the park to WDW, and the above is my answer. Make the most of the Pirates franchise. It should expand beyond the great ride the movies were based on. I'd not only replace the Jungle Cruise, I'd build that themed restaurant that was rumored to be in development, and then mysteriously dropped. Yes, Fantasyland desperately needed expansion. But if Disney really wants to bring in the boy demo, then Adventureland needs an update too.

Frankly I think there are too many pirates already in adventureland. the lands name is adventureland not pirate land. The jungle cruise is one of my favorite attractions and one of the most popular as well.

Re: More Pirates in Adventureland

Because there already is a "pirates-type ride" called "Pirates of the Caribbean"

Because Adventureland and/or NOS do NOT need more pirates.

Because a LOT of people love the Jungle Cruise.

I'm not saying your concept is bad, there is some cool stuff in there. Just that DL does not need more pirates, in fact I'd prefer they took out the 'extras' they wedged into POTC after the films. And I love the films.

I think there is already too much Pirate-saturation at WDW as it stands.

Re: More Pirates in Adventureland

The thought of an Adventureland without the Jungle Cruise makes me want to cry. I know I'm not the only Disney Nut out there that feels this way. Its a solid chunk of park history and has so much love attached to it that the idea of it ever being over taken by something else just seems ridiculous.

Jungle Cruise for life!

Jungle Cruise is a classic no matter how you look at it. There is an expansion pad in Adventureland already. No need to tear out when there is land. Hope this answers your question

Pirates are on Tom's Island In DL, we don't want pirates to invade Jungle Cruise.

I hate to be negative, but I too think this is a bad idea. The Jungle Cruise is a classic, and is loved by many guests. I would be very sad to see it go. It is a nod to the nature films Walt used to create, is it not? Why take something like that from the park dedicated to his vision?

Re: More Pirates in Adventureland

you say they don't use pirates movies in their park enough? really? first, lets not scene another classic attractioin ruined (imo) by pirates. first POTC, now you want to take away the classic attraction, which has a fastpass and a 45 minute wait, when I went, while POTC doesn't even have a fastpass itself? Plus, the Jungle Cruise in Disney World is the best version there is imo.

Re: More Pirates in Adventureland

The Pirates franchise is more of a disturbance to me then Hannah Montana, the Jonas Brothers, and the rest of Disney Channel. I simply don't have to watch their shows that I don't like. As for Pirates, the ride is great except for the stupid movie tie ins. It ruins the ride in Pirates and this would absolutely HORRIBLE for Jungle Cruise.

Re: More Pirates in Adventureland

I have to partially agree with the OP, I personally find the Jungle cruise to be rather boring and would love to see a better ride replace it. However I would not want it to be a pirate ride, I think some other type of ride which would fit the adventure land them would be nice. I also realize many have a nostalgia for it but it's days are numbered I mean heck all it seems to be now is a boat trip with a wannabe comic, and if I want improve and poor jokes I will go to the Laugh Floor. Lets face it the Jungle cruise in it's current form is simply not the same ride WD built and loved.

I still like Jungle Cruise, and the corny jokes. I would just be in favor of more advanced animal AAs.

Re: More Pirates in Adventureland

The one thing I could see doing and not have a problem with is blowing up the Swiss Family Treehose and maybe create Black Pearl of soemthing

There are much better things to do, like perhaps an Alladin Cave of Wonders ride, but I wouldn't miss the Treehouse nearly as much as Jungle Cruise
