I am what you would call a Disney Parks NUT, I doubt that I have to explain this to many of the readers on this board. Now you will notice I used the term "Disney Parks." While I cringe at the corprate connotations that moniker brings to mind, I use it only to show that I love ALL of the parks.
That being said, however, I often find myself in the minority of the MiceChat community. Why you ask?
Well, despite being over 800 miles away, it is the East coasts own Disney World that is my home Disney Park. Now while that can be said of many on this board (although east coasters are still the minority), what cannot be said of most is that WDW is my favorite.....
This is far from saying that I do not recognize the importance and absolute magic that is Walt's original park. Disneyland still holds a special place in my heart. I also recognize that Disneyland is hands down superior to the Magic Kingdom. With all that out in the open, however, there is no place in the world I would rather be than at WDW.
What is it, despite it's flaws, that puts my heart in the Disney World camp? It's hard to say. Perhaps it's the fact that WDW was my first Disney experience. Or maybe it's my habit of supporting the underdog. I know, I know the goliath of Florida is hardly an underdog in the traditional sense, but on the online Disney community Disneyland is king. But I think there is something else that is almost unique to the WDW experience. Total and utterly wonderful immersion. While the jewel of the Disney finds itself as an oasis in the middle of the sprawling city of Anaheim, WDW is surrounded by, well more WDW. And while I love the Parks (especially the unique experience that is EPCOT) I think that the surrounding "world" is every bit as magical. While Disneyland veterans visit WDW and rightfully see the places where WDW just doesn't measure up, the one place where I think it wins hands down is the resorts. There are a mind-blowing number of resorts, and each one of them has it's own special magic. Some of them are nothing short of Imagineering MASTERPIECES. They may sometimes get a lot of flak from posters because of there price, I find them worth every penny.
And what of the parks? As I stated Disneyland is definitely Magic Kingdoms superior, it still has it's redeeming factors. There is nothing like the feeling of awe that Cinderella's castle inspires in me. Sleeping Beauty's grand estate is no doubt elegant and steeped in history, and Paris's Castle is absolutely gorgeous, But neither of these seem to have the same effect on me. And then there is EPCOT (not that it is spelled in the proper ALL CAPS). This to me is a theme park experience different to any in the world. And lest we not forget Animal Kingdom, which despite it's shortcomings represents a level of themeing that is unequal to anything stateside.
Well, that my thoughts....just curious to what everyone thinks.....
Am I alone in my love for the magic of Florida?
