    WDW Theme Parks closed Monday.

    Florida-Based Disney Destinations Hurricane Update

    Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005

    Walt Disney World Resort

Due to the potential of tropical storm force winds associated with Hurricane Wilma, all four Walt Disney World Theme Parks, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, the Downtown Disney area and Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex will not open tomorrow morning, Monday, Oct. 24, 2005.

Weather permitting, the Walt Disney World Resort may reopen one or more Theme Parks after the storm passes on Monday to entertain the tens of thousands of Guests currently staying in our resort hotels.

We have made this decision with an abundance of caution based on information from the National Weather Service, the National Hurricane Center and local emergency preparedness officials, all of whom currently expect the storm to pass more than 100 miles south of the resort.

All resort hotels will remain open, though Guests staying at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground have been relocated to other hotels on property.

The Walt Disney World Resort has an extensive hurricane preparedness plan and is prepared for a realm of possible impacts that this type of weather could have on our property.

It's all about the on-property guests isn't it?

I would assume that is all Disney is concerned about right now. Off property guests are not Disney's worry after all.

If they were really concerned about the weather and the safety of guests, they would be boarding up windows at their hotels and sheltering guests in their convention halls... of which none is being done. Or is it? I think the media is blowing this out of proportions..

This is a release direct from Disney. If you notice the storm is predicted in passing about 100 miles from the resort, so no need to board windows and evacuate all guests. Just thought some of you might want to know this bit of information.

All Resort Hotels are structurally able to handle the possible damage from the hurricanes. If necessary, the guests will be moved into inward areas of the resorts.

Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground has been evacuated and the resort guests moved to the All-Stars.

From what I've heard, the resort guests will be admitted only for two reasons...
#1. To disuade outside guests from using Central Florida roadways during the hurricane and post-hurricane clean-up.
#2. Due to limited transportation for cast-members, park populations will be limited due to safety concerns.

There is probably some preferencial treatment going on here, but then again, the resort guests are Disney's #1 concern, they pay Disney to stay and have these opportunities.

Well heres the thing... the guests that are staying on-property are just that... ON Disney property. This makes those guests their responsibility. If others are staying at other hotels let those hotels take care of them. I say good looking out, Disney!

I remember reading about the 2 hurricanes that hit the area earlier this year. As long as Disney World has been open and had plans for hurricanes those were the first hurricanes to hit Orlando area. From what I read Disney did very well. They had all their buildings designed to handle hurricanes. There are pre storm crews that go around lashing things down and putting things in storage that might fly away/move in the winds. Guests at the hotels were given info and there was food/staff durring the storm to attend to their needs. There were cleanup crews after the storm working quickly to make repairs and get things back in order. Another disney fan site had a story written by someone that was a guest at one of the hotels and gave Disney high marks for their efforts. The parks did have reduced service following the storms because some employees were unable to come to work after the storm due to road closures or damage at their homes.

I'm at SSR right now. Wilma entered Florida a little farther south then predicted. It is as close to Orlando as it will get right now. Some wind and rain but nothing major, thank god! It seems that tornados have been touching down east of here by Port Canaveral. All is well, we will be at the MK as soon as it opens!

Yeah, no work for me today because of this.
Sadly it also meant no backstage tour of the haunted mansion :-(

But according to what we've heard, Animal Kingdom and MGM are both closed all day today.
Cast members for Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and Downtown Disney were to report to work either before 7am or after 2pm and they will be trying to reopen those three areas as close to 2pm as possible for resort guests (except DTD I guess cause there's no way to moniter that one).
Business is suppose to be as usual tomorrow.
