Disney World for First Time

We just returned from a brief venture from Disney World. We attend Disneyland on average at least 4 times a year currently. I was absolutely shocked with the way we were treated by cast members there. The Cast Members at Disney World were Rude, Nasty and Yelled at us on 4 different occasions. I finally told one of them you obviously have never been to Disneyland where this behavior is not acceptable. Has anyone else observed this from cast members at Disney World? It made me really appreciate the little things Disneyland cast members do to be polite.

I have never been treated rudely by a cast member at either Disney World, or Disneyland. I can certainly understand how a rude cast member can leave a sour taste in your mouth, and make your vacation a whole lot less than magical.

In my experience, WDW's CMs are more polarized than Disneyland's. They are either horrible or exceptional, whereas Disneyland's are all pretty average. Even the good ones aren't as good as Florida's.

We have honestly decided we never care if we go back to Disney World again Ever. Especially MGM which is where 3 of the 4 instances happened. In the Magic Kingdom at the Stitch thing the lady was screaming all these little kids, she was lucky it was not my child or else that would have been the straw.

That is too bad about your experiance at WDW. When we went last January we found everyone to be as nice as the CMs at Disneyland.

Don't let this make it so you never go back! There are good cast members and bad cast members! Its everywhere :P, I actually didn't notice this until I got my AP for Disneyland. Just on sunday a CM on Mad Tea Party got super pissed at these kids on a ride for being "too loud" so I saw her SLAM her hands on the stop button, get out onto the ride, yell, walk back shaking her head, then resume the ride.

Don't let it bring you down, you have to IGNORE stupid rude CM's.

I think a lot of it depends on the time of year you go at DW.
My husband and I were AP holders at DW when we lived nearby and found the off-season CMs were absolutely fantastic while some of the summer CMs seemed less 'Disney'.
Many of the off-season CMs were retirees or people who worked at DW as a second job and loved the atmosphere and people. We spent an hour talking to one about why she worked there, how she looked forward every winter to come back, etc...
I think the busier seasons wear on people a lot more just due to the sheer volume and craziness. I'm not excusing the behavior, but I know Black Friday and the holiday shopping season wore on me when I was in customer service worse than a random Wednesday did.

I hope that this experience doesn't sour you on DW -- it really is a wonderful place and a totally different experience than DL. I cherish so many of my DW memories and can't wait to take my daughter to make new ones. (Though DL is a fantastic substitute for now!)

Hmmm, that's odd. I've had nothing but great interactions with CM's at Disney World. I've had more bad encounters at Disneyland to be honest.

Disney World does have a lot of different kinds of CM's, CM's that may be from other countries, and a LOT of college age students. But I've always found that difference between the parks to be one of the things I like, and again, I've never had any issues with CM's at WDW.

We travel almost exclusively during peak season, Christmas and Summer. My experiences have been that the CMs at WDW are somewhat less magical than the DL CMs. I think that your explanation is probably the reason why, since some couldn't give me basic information like where is the nearest bathroom. I don't want to sound like Im bashing all the wdw CMs here, I have found some of the wdw CMs to be excellent.

WDW CMs are either really enthusiastic or lost the pixie dust a long, long time ago. Strangely, the college students can be some of the best CMs and the worst CM I've seen was a lady close to retirement. It's the opposite of DLR. Familiarity seems to breed contempt at WDW, whereas at DLR the long-timers tend to love the place more than the people who are just dropping in for work until something better comes along.

Yeah, I'll add my voice that I've never experienced really bad CMs, and I've been to WDW for full trips six different occasions over the years, including this year. The only bad ones were individuals dispassionate about their job, but definitely not openly hostile. The part of your complaint that intrigues me is the "yelled at 4 times." What were the exact circumstances where you were being yelled at? Not that I'm accusing, but the only reason I could think you might be yelled at is if you were doing something against the rules like walking into a restricted area.

I can honestly say that in all my times at WDW I have never had that experience. I have been there at least 1 a year for the last 20+ years. The only time I encountered a not terrific CM was in Pop Century, but even that experience doesn't seem as bad as what you stated. They may at times not be enthusiastic, but never rude and yelling.
Curious- why were they rude? What was the issue?

My family has been to WDW 3 times and DL twice and have never had a bad experience with a CM at either. In fact, our last vacation to WDW our group of 10 were wandering up to Splash, looking and sounding less than pleased with the heat, crowd and the neverending line ahead of us, when a CM (an older gentleman) came up to us and asked how our trip was going. We halfheartedly said "Great" crossing over into guests who are ungrateful and disheartening. He cheerfully asked if we could use a shortcut....and proceeded to wind through an empty chute until we were at the very front of the line where he escorted us onto the next boat. That's what you call Disney Magic. The CM's make sure it's always there. You can choose to focus on the small negative experiences, or the abundance of positive ones.
