Re: WDW: Old Photos and Ephemera Thread

This weekend I'll have to scan in some old pictures from some of the books I have; maybe I'll even stop by the library and pick up the WDW book they have there from the 1980s. Good stuff in there.

Great job as usual! I will never understand closing river country to just close it such a unique and original water park too bad they didn't think it could opporate with blizard beach!

Look forward to seeing what you find, yoyoflamingo!

I have mainly been using a couple old WDW souvenir books, including the 25th anniversary one.

For today, we have rather a mixed bag of images:

Rather freaky singing dairy products wait to entertain you in Kitchen Kabaret.

A hotel I am unfamiliar with personally, presumably in the "hotel circle" with the Marriott and others...is this still there?

The Rocketeer poses at Pleasure Island, strangely enough

    Liberty Square's Harbor House

    Thanks for looking, as always!

That Maelstrom picture in the first post always cracks me up mainly because there is absolutely nothing in the area where they are looking surprised at.

The Disney Inn is located behind the Grand Floridian and the Poly. It is now called Shades of Green and is the resort that is owned by the military.

It was the Value property before the All Star Resort.

I'm not sure I'd consider it a value resort as it had rates from 195.00 - 500.00 per night in the mid 90's according to some of the websites I've viewed.

Great stuff. I believe that's also the Adventurers Club's Graves being yelled at by Pamelia Perkins in their original costumes in the lower left corner. Possibly also half of Otis Wren looking like he's scheming about something.

    1983

One of the 3 Little Pigs

    Journey Into Imagination

    Rescuers

    1985

    1989

    MGM Studios

    Contemporary Resort Pool

Contemporary Mickey Statue, before they put the "idiot" plastic in.

    SSE from World of Motion

1997 - The Year of the Cake!

    Roger Rabbit!

Someone mentioned earlier what the backside of the castle looked like with the cake paint. I agree, it was pretty bad. For your viewing displeasure. LOL

    POTC - Before Jack Sparrow

Part of the collage behind the Kodak photo center, which is now off limits and hopefully not destroyed because of the remodel happening.

The history of the Magic Kingdom, which is no longer there behind the Kodak Shop on MS, most of those items got moved to Walt Disney: OMD after they closed it. It was one of my favorite attractions at the MK.

Fantasyland and The Skyway -Ignore my crazy friend.

    Frontierland with the Keel Boats

Adventureland PreAladdin Again (I just noticed the old photo I posted earlier is taken in a similar location. Ironic)

Delta Dreamflight - My favorite attraction as a teenager, I think it helped shape my love of travel. LOL

Space Mountain and a bit of the Skyway Buckets

A tree that has obviously been removed now, was located in Fantasyland. (And more skyway buckets)

That's it, I apologize that they aren't the best in quality, they are just family photos we've taken over the years. I do have a book at home from the early 80's about MK and Epcot, one of these days I'll scan it in. LOL

Thank you very much SummerInFL! I like the Pirates and Dreamflight interior photos in particular, I vaguely remember riding Dreamflight on my first visit in the 90's.

It wasn't actually painted, but covered with additional layers (mostly/all inflatable?) that were meant to look like a birthday cake to celebrate the park's 25th anniversary.

While most was inflatable, there were parts that were actually painted.

Have a little old time rum with old Bill, aye?

The caption claimed these rather spooky skeletons are in the Great Movie Ride, but I don't recall them personally...

They are still there, right after the Indiana Jones scene when the guide returns...
