Haunted Mansion Adds Animated Ghost Projections - Like It or Not?

Blogger Brandon Struve posts a video of 'enhancements' to the Haunted Mansion. The "Ghosts will follow you home" scene has been altered in a serious way.

New and 'Improved?' Haunted Mansion - Brandon Struve

    I'm trying to count to 10 before saying anything . . . . .

    What do you think?

I am glad they are trying it out in Florida first. I'm skeptical and concerned, I hate tinkering too much with classics.

hmm.. I think I would need to see it in person first. Thankfully I'll be there in Sept to see it. But yeah, not too sure about it. :/

Why not integrate these with the mirrors??? I have no problem with upgrading tech but this does not make as much sense the way they are using it

So they darkened the whole wall of 'mirrors' and synced ghosts and now use projections?

I'm fine with it being more articulated but removing two effects for one isn't ideal. The key to that scene is SEEING YOURSELF.

Or is that now how WDW does it?

The tech is cool... but it shouldn't be used like this.

I'm on the fence on this one...I'd have to see it in person but I hate when they mess with the classics!

Do we know if that's just a "back up" when the regular effect isn't working? Or is this really a permanent change?

This isn't even a "don't mess with the classics" argument for me. It's a "don't mess with a good idea" argument.

The whole fun of this is looking in a mirror and seeing a ghost with yourself. Yes, we all know how it's done but it's still fun. People "pretend" kiss, hug, pick nose, whatever to said ghost and it's fun!

    This is a TERRIBLE idea.

I was there this weekend and I did not even notice this, I'm pretty sure it wasn't in use because I saw my reflection in the mirrors.

I don't get why they didn't put a screen behind the mirror and do this. Black cloth with projections just sucks.

I could almost swear I saw one of them give the "devil" "rock on" Sign at the end though.

WDW Magic is reporting this is just Temporary, while they work on the mirrors, so no reason for us to freak out....just yet.

I hope it doesn't come to Disneyland. I don't like it, and it's missing that Disney magic. I remember, when I was younger, I loved the mirror effect, and even as I got older, I wondered how it was achieved. The three-dimensional look is noticeable and realistic, and I still love it. No matter how clear, vibrant, or good the projections are, they just aren't the same as having an actual object there. It is similar to the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage at Disneyland. I would rather have static figures than the projections that are currently there. Projections over a three-dimensional object just creates a flat, boring experience, not the magical, memorable one that Disney should strive for.

Yeah, according to some reports this could be temporary. Who knows.

Hopefully this isn't the final version, because I have a hard time believing they would replace the classic mirror scene with screen projections. It looks out of place.
