Did this actually happen? (Splash Mountain Openning)

This video seems a little over the top.

And we thought the Japanese are nuts.

Do they still sell the Goofy and Donald hats? That brings me back...

Nope, did not actually happen. If you notice everything in that video was computer animated... I mean really, talking bears?

On a side note: I am so glad 80's fashion did not stick around. It's embarrassing.

Too bad every day outside Splash Mountain couldn't be like that. Really dig that gospel inspired Brer Bear water song.

That's one of the corniest things I've ever seen. But I guess to get to the great attraction putting up with this little pre-show wouldn't have been so bad.

Ah, the early '90s... Disney was so much more innocent and less self-aware.

Thank God the new, savvy young management took over TDO in 1994 and saved us from such embarrassing attractions as Journey Into Imagination and Tropical Serenade by giving us their much more hip and relevant replacements...
I knew if this business was ever to get anywhere, if this business was ever to grow, it could never do it by having to answer to someone unsympathetic to its possibilities, by having to answer to someone with only one thought or interest, namely profits. For my idea of how to make profits has differed greatly from those who generally control businesses such as ours. I have blind faith in the policy that quality, tempered with good judgment and showmanship, will win against all odds.

Ahh, the morning opening ceremony. They used to run that, fireworks and all, every morning during the summers. If you timed it right, you could see the opening ceremony at Main Gate first, then see this at Splash Mountain a few minutes later. Too bad they decided to save money but not running it daily. Declining by Degrees!

I don't see why it couldn't have happened that way! It seems very staged, but a lot of Disney does seem that way lol.
Kind of reminds me of the Celebrate! Parade in its cheesiness

Not only did that happen, but the amazing thing is it was completely spontaneous. They had no plans at all for any type of opening ceremony. The people just did this unexpectedly.

This makes me depressed... so many things are no longer in the parks.

Of course, it was just a 1990's flash mob! Just like you see in all of those movies where random people just start singing and dancing, and through extreme happenstance/star alignment/serendipity, they all look well choreographed and dressed alike...

In fact, this was filmed by a single person running very fast from one place to another to get various angles

Happens all the time... Happened to me twice this week: once at Starbucks and once at Jiffy Lube... I'm going to the bank later, I fully expect all hell to break lose

(not mocking you btw, I'd love to have seen one of those moments at Splash Mountain )

That didn't happen on the Grand Opening Day. It might of happened later. But on the Grand Opening Day, it rained all day and they gave out Splash Mountain umbrellas and Michael Eisner gave the opening speech.

    I wondered at that.

Look like this was filmed with a token audience and they carefully constructed the shots to never show just quite how big it was. I'd guess it was done in the morning before the park opened for the day, possibly before the ride was officially opened.
