Why didn't the Matterhorn fit with MK's Fantasyland?

I read a short piece from Jason Surrell's book on Wikipedia, that the reason the Matterhorn was not built at the MK was that it did not fit with the Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland. Does anyone know why the Matterhorn didn't fit with MK's Fantasyland?

What I wonder is why anyone would ever like to see that ancient coaster being made again.

You know, there is a thing call reinvention, like they did with Space Mountain, they could have re-tooled the coaster itself, and upgraded the overall look of it.
Of course, now with Expedition Everest, there really is no need for Matterhorn Bobsleds at Magic Kingdom.

ORDDU: Yes, that's how they reinvented Disneyland's Matterhorn--by building Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom and making it even more thrilling. So there you have it.

I wonder if by "fitting", he's referring to scale. The 147-foot Matterhorn towers over the 77-foot Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland, but at WDW it was very important to the design of the park, and arguably of the resort as a whole, that Cinderella Castle clearly be the tallest object in the park, at 189 feet. If the Matterhorn were built in the Magic Kingdom at the same height it had in Disneyland, then you would have witnessed the strange optical effect of one of the tallest mountains in the world being towered over by a princess's castle... not to mention just the unattractive sight of seeing a mountain directly behind Cinderella Castle as you walk up Main Street. It kind of works with Disneyland's little castle; it's almost as if the Matterhorn gave the park the tall and towering icon that the Sleeping Beauty Castle wasn't... but IMO, it wouldn't have worked at WDW.

It also would have looked fairly stupid have what's suppose to be one of the tallest mountains on the planet beside and equally tall Ccastle.

Because back then they thought they were gonna make each park different and unique, so they retooled the matterhorn as space mountain.
