Do people swim in the giant bodies of water?

The Seven Seas Lagoon is obviously one of them, then the Yacht Club Resort as well as the other neighboring resorts have large bodies of water where a beach can be found with lawn chairs, yet i usually only see pictures where not one person is in the water. I went to Disney World back in 2001, and we took the ferry to MK and from afar, i didn't see anyone in the water. is it possibly because the water is murky and swampy? it doesn't look very refreshing. and a pool can usually be found at each resort. so it it common that the waters are empty? do tourists just decide "eww, icky water, no thanks"?

    The answer is no.

I believe bacteria is the answer for why not?

All resorts have pools for swimming purposes.

Re: Do people swim in the giant bodies of water?

Originally, guests were encouraged to swim in the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake, with the latter being the source for River Country's water. Swimming from the beaches is now prohibited, due in part to the possible presence of the amoeba Naegleria fowleri in the sediment and also the watercraft traffic. While general swimming does not occur, it is possible to partake in various activities in the Magic Kingdom area in which one would swim briefly in deeper parts of the water.

There are alligators in Seven Seas Lagoon, so that's another reason why.

Good to know about the amoeba - - and the alligators

I always wanted to go swimming in the lakes... it just looks so great to me. I guess next time I'll have to go wake boarding and get my fill that way

^gator wrastlin' 101 by Disney would be a fun class for the kids...I still have yet to see a Gator in the seven seas lagoon but I've seen plenty of other things like water mocassins around that area to make me think twice about swimming there..

I'll stick to the pools and water parks

Occasionally a gator has even made its way into the Rivers of America in the park!

    Occasionally? More like frequently.

I remember reading about a group of urban explorers who swam across Bay Lake to visit the abandoned Discovery Island, and how they had to wait until the patrol boats stopped running at night.

Yeah it is very unlikely the amoeba would ever pose a health risk, but the whole "there is no cure, and you have 14 days to live" once it gets inside you is pretty terrifying.

I swim in Florida waters all the time, when I go canoeing and kayaking. I just make sure not to stir up the sediment.

There are gators in EVERY body of water in FL. In ditches, retention ponds, wherever they can find. There really isn't anything that can be done about that and I'm kind of surprised that Ginger's cousins haven't come to visit her at Jungle cruise.

Likely because of the isolation of the Jungle Cruise from other waters.
