Question TYPHOON LAGOON - First time going and have questions to those seasoned attendees!

    Hello to all...

I don't post here often but when I do have a question, I find the folks here of MiceChat the best with quick and helpful answers!

I am leaving for WDW in 11 days - woot! This year, we'll be visiting Typhoon Lagoon, which will be our first time ever going to a waterpark while in Disney.

I know absolutely NOTHING about it. My sister-in-law loves sharks and I heard you can snorkel there with sharks...true or false? Is there an additional charge for it if it's true?

Should we expect to spend an entire day there or would 1/2 day be enough?

    HELP?!?!?!

I read up on the waterpark on Disney's site but I want to hear it from people who have been there and know what's what and can pass on helpful hints, tips, stories of their experiences, etc.

    Thanks to all in advance!

Shark Reef does offer free snorkeling with live animals. It is not a free swim experience, as in being able to swim wherever you want for as much as you want, but one where you must get in and progress to the other side.

How much time you spend is up to you. If there are few crowds then you might get everything done once very quickly, but want to stay and repeat some of the attractions or just relax.

Well it is going to be chilly, but they do heat the water to a comfortable 86 degrees. That being said, you might find yourself only spending the warmest parts of the day there 11 - 4 there, far from a full day, but taking up a bulk of the prime day time hours.

Thank you for the information! I'll pass along the swimming with sharks info to my sister-in-law...she'll be happy there isn't an additional cost!

Someone told me that not all of the restaurants might be open since it's not the height of waterpark season. But they didn't have any more information than that. Does anyone know which ones will be closed, or vice versa?

when I remember going there were only 2/3 CS locations only at Typhoon lagoon anyways so your experience and selection wouldn't be hampered too much regardless if one is closed or not. my advice would be to grab a quick snack at TL and have your actual meal somewhere else, for example back at your resort. the food there is mostly of mediocre to low quality compared to other Disney food anyways.

One word of warning. THe water in that shark tank is COLD. They can't warm it due to the welfare of the animals. However, I found it worth it, since I can now tell people I've swam with sharks. This can really impress little kids.

We love Typhoon Lagoon. Like most water parks, you can make a half day out of it or stretch the day out by lounging or floating in the lazy river.

Don't miss the snorkeling lagoon. REALLY REALLY fun - and beautiful.

actually, I'd be happy just to float in that river around and around and around for hours.

Of the water parks, even though Blizzard Beach is bigger and newer, Typhoon Lagoon is truly my favorite. The tropical theming is just wonderfully relaxing.

Well we are back (how sad)! My in-laws went to Typhoon Lagoon and they seemed to enjoy it. My sister-in-law LOVED her swim with the sharks. Thanks to everyone who replied to my questions and help me relay that info to my family before they went to the water park.

Now, is it November 2013 yet?! *sigh*

Glad you had a good time. As you sister in law found out, swimming with the sharks is not free. It cost $20 and last as long as the oxygen in your tank does. The money goes toward conservation.
