You and your sisters couldn't mix up a brew to help out in that situation? Heck you give my wifey a hundred dollars for some shopping and it would free me up!

As to the OP, NOTHING spoils my time in Disney. Whether on the monorail, or the boat, that first site of the castle lifts all my cares and woes away and keeps them safe until my vacation is over. Unfortunately no matter how many times I lose that claim ticket for them, those "cares and woes" always seem to catch back up to me shortly after reaching home. It's very hard for me to get bothered at Disney World. I grew up going there and my parents always taught me to have fun no matter what the circumstances were. Long lines? Have a nice conversation with whoever you're with. Enjoy all the little details and intricacies of the sets and queues. Hot day? Bring some water and a spray fan. Find your favorite air conditioned attraction. Going to rain? Bring a poncho and have fun with it. Some spots of Disney World can be incredibly scenic with the rain. It also clears out a lot of people, so get out there and enjoy some free space.

Every trip is what you make of it.

    Howdy ttintagel,

Uh...can you elaborate a little? I mean I've had fried chicken in the Magic Kingdom and in the course of eating that chicken I may have broken a bone or two as well. It was good chicken you know?

But, did you mean you broke a bone in your body? Why on earth would you do that?
That does not sound particularly like fun at all. Was it an accident? Or did one of those
stroller Moms sneak up behind you when you weren't looking?

Give us a detail or two...

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

    Wild Ol' Dan

P.S. I don't usually eat chicken in the park. Usually I'm over in Pecos Bill's Tall Tale Cafe munchin' on a fully loaded cheeseburger or a Taco Salad. They've got sauteed onions and mushrooms and things in there and...oh...uh...sorry...so what bone were you talking about my dear?

Re: Things that ruin your day at Disney

I ALWAYS try to remember that life is what you make of it, and only you can choose your attitude. Only you can let others and maybe small things affect your day and good time. I constantly have to point these out to many adults, because I fight viciously for parents and for kids. There are a lot of hateful awful people out there right now that don't think kids should be allowed to go anywhere anymore, and say that parents are just the most horrible people. I tell them, I think your attitudes make you horrible people. Not the 3-year old or the parents who are trying everything possible to calm their crying children. I am SO SICK of hearing these adults on these news articles complain about children in public and the horrific comments I read about parents/kids. Saying children are ALL brats, should be locked away, parents are discusting for taking them out.. on and on. You can't group ALL people together, and you can't assume things about people and their situations either. Ugh! Oh my goodness, TERRIBLY sorry about the rant, but this just frustrates me to no end. I will ALWAYS fight for the children, when did kids and parents become the enemy? (Please understand that I would prefer minor discussion about the topic there. It's not really Disney related, and I don't want to start anything. It's just an opinion, please message me privately if there's a problem. Oh, and by this I mean starting a negative war of opinions lol)

ANYWHO, there isn't much that ruins my day at Disney. I've lost my wallet, lost glasses into the river, been pushed, runover, stepped on, had other people be rude to me, had friends being jerks while in the park, had my strollers moved, lost my boy's favorite blanket (that was a tough one, he can't sleep/nap without it), had an asthma attack in the park and had to go to the hospital for it, been horribly sunburnt, had a bad experience with the Leap Year event.. lol The list goes on and on, you can imagine after 30 years and hundreds of visits I'm sure. However, I think I'm about to have my first worst experience ever at Disneyland, and that is going to be telling my son he can no longer go on the Matterhorn because they changed the height requirement. He's only 3, and just will not understand. It's going to break my heart, and I fully plan on having Guest Services explain it to him instead. LOL!

I would say that most of the bad show is contained to the resorts, so staying off property avoids that problem entirely.

As for in the parks, I really, really hate it when a ride breaks down either when I'm on it or waiting in line to get on it.

    Howdy Pards,

Well now, I've found that one of the things that helps me get through the day at Disney is knowin' where the quiet places are. It helps to get away from the chaos even if it is just for a few seconds.

Kinda strange how the human critter needs quiet every once in a while. For me it kinda helps in arrangin' my thoughts and such I reckon. For instance, there's a stretch of beautiful, peaceful green between the new Carolwood Pacific Train Station, you know, out there near Goofy's Side Show, and Tomorrowland. A walk down that quiet little pathway along the railroad tracks is always downright nice. Not to mention it is the absolute bestest place in the park to get a picture of those beautiful Walt Disney World Steamtrains in action. But, taint usually many people at all along that pathway...lots of elbow room and, as I say, peace and quiet.

Another favorite spot of mine is out thar on Tom Sawyer's Island. Plenty of peaceful spots out thar. You can get lost in Injun Joe's Cave or you can just set in a rocker on Aunt Polly's porch and wait for that big ol' beautiful riverboat to come slowly around the bend in the river.

I've always found that there is a particular kinda food that will calm my nerves too. Like one of those big ol' citrus swirl things. And, it's kinda fun watchin' the folks along the street in Frontierland buyin' one of those turkey legs and, then, feedin' those big ol' Florida birds with chunks of it...

I talked about settin' in Pecos Bills Tall Tale cafe. The key here is to go when most folks don't go...it's more peaceful that way. I got a favorite room in there...you know the one that looks like the courtyard of an ol' Mexican Hacienda at night. I love it. Then there's all those sauteed mushrooms and onions and such...I love them too.

Don't let this get out, but over there at the Columbia Harbor House...they got some downright good fish and chips...and, upstairs can be the most wonderfullest, peacefullest, and quietest spot of all. Air-conditioned too. It just don't get no betterer.

And...sometimes they'll open up the Ol' Diamond Horseshoe. For you folks who ain't been to Walt Disney World the Diamond Horseshoe looks just like the good ol' Disneyland Golden
Horseshoe inside...right down to those beautiful longhorn steer horns scattered about! Last time I visited Walt Disney World, back in March it was, I had a tall ice cold soda and sat in one of those booths just off the stage. Talk about beautiful! Twernt no show goin' on...just one of them amazin' piano things that plays all by itself whenever it feels like it... and so it was kinda like spendin' a few minutes in cowboy Heaven...

Then I went over to the stroller junkyards in Fantasyland and threaded my way through the strollers till I found the entrance to MICKEY'S PHILHARMAGIC...

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

True. I´d never stay in a resort. It´s cheaper and just as nice outside, if not nicer. But that´s just me. Some people like to spend all their money on the resort.

    Howdy Pards,

Yep. I reckon you could say that those "on property" hotels are much more than slightly overpriced. But, I have to be honest...if I won the lottery...I'd be stayin' at least a night in some of 'em just so I'd know what the rich people do. The Grand Floridian sure looks mighty fancy to this grizzled Ol' feller... Can't figure how normal folks could ever afford to stay there though...

Ya know, you sure are right, off property you can find some mighty nice places to stay...and ya wont feel trapped into payin' Disney prices for snacks and such...why, just down the way a little they got a Walmart where you can still buy a DOZEN cookies for just $2. Shucks, it costs ya $2.59 for just ONE in those on property hotel stores. And you can buy 24 bottles of water for $3.99...shucks "on property" it'll cost ya mor'n that for just 2!

Course not all folks are into savin' money as much as I am I reckon. It could just be cause I ain't never had too much of it. But, like I say, if I win the lottery...I figure I'm gonna be just like those other rich folks...at least for one night. After one night my upbringin' would probably get the best of me and I'd be askin' myself why am I wastin' money on a hotel room when I could be wastin' it better on somethin' else?

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

I can overlook the strollers. I can overlook unhappy cast members.
Obnoxious guests? Eh. They go with the territory, though they're undeniably getting worse than ever.

What REALLY ruins my day are two things only:

    * The proliferation of outdoor vending carts and carny-style "barkers" hawking their wares

    * Ugly, un-maintained areas that are falling apart. I can see that on my money-pit of a house. I DON'T want to see that at Walt DIsney World!

    ---------- Post added 05-28-2012 at 03:27 PM ----------

BTW, echoing your point, Dan, what gets me BACK in the mood is finding a nice, quiet spot in one of the resorts (ideally) with rocking chairs and a nice little view.

One year, my brother went on the 60 day dl, so i gathered him and his wife up, and went to DW. We went to the Tiki Room,We were sent to the front of the line, because my brother was in a wheel chair, having had surgery on his knee. Inside, enjoying the show, a kid next to me....barfed on my shoe !!My brother was laughing so hard, the parents were getting alittle pissed at him !! (older brothers tend to find humor in the discomfort of younger brothers.....lol) My sister in law, then took my shoe to a restroom to clean it up. As i was sitting there outside the attraction, a bird crapped on my hat !! Guess what? I still had a great time !!!!

    Howdy ttintagel,

Thanks for letting us know what happened. How long ago did it happen? Hope everything is all better now. I live down New Orlins way so I know the French Quarter can be downright dangerous at times...don't know much about those Hot Tubs though...they sound like they can be dangerous too. But you say it didn't ruin your vacation much...so that's good news...

I had the chance to visit Port Orleans during one of my trips to Walt Disney World...the place looked downright purty and peaceful... As I recall we had lunch at a restaurant there...

I reckon it's no secret that Walt Disney always kinda loved New Orleans...the food, the people,
the music, the history...just about everything about the place. Yep, he loved New Orleans so much...he built his own along the Rivers of America in Disneyland. Did you know that he invited the mayor of New Orleans, Louisiana to the ribbon cutting of New Orleans Square in Disneyland and presented him with the key to New Orleans Square? Yep. He surely did. Course, Walt had been presented with the key to the real New Orleans quite a while back....

"Here is Walt Disney sampling some espresso coffee and sweet treats at the newly opened Creole Cafe in New Orleans Square. They served speciality sandwiches, fritters, phosphates (yep, that’s right), and ice cream delights. New Orleans Square was the last opening event he attended at Disneyland (7-24-66) as he passed-away later that year. As for the espresso machine, it can still be seen in a cubby hole inside (renamed in 1972) Cafe Orleans."

Yep...seems Walt loved New Orleans...and New Orleans loved Walt. Anyways...you know what they say don't ya? "They say dreams do come true in New Orleans...."

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

When your only pair of socks and shoes are completely soaked and you have to walk around the park with them on all day, ending the day with your feet peeling and blistered. That can ruin the day.
