Kathy Mangum has new post at WDW: something big on the horizon?
Kathy, fresh from the success of Carsland, seems to have landed a new job in a new position, at a new park, on a new coast, as the "executive producer" of Walt Disney World.
With the rumors of Carsland coming to Walt Disney World, or perhaps something different, this might lend some credence to that. Hopefully it's more than just Avatar, though many people seem to think it is a lot more.

I would prefer Carsland stay in DCA. WDW needs to stop relying on DL's successes to clone and ship back east.

What I would want is for Tomorrowland to get a major refurb to make it not so Disney character based.

Yes. Yes I believe big things are on the horizon with this new move. I too wouldn't want a Carsland clone in DHS. What I personally would love to see is Pixar Studios expanded into a true land to complement TSMM.

Wait wait.....what?
Test Track, Everest, Tower of Terror, Rock'n Roller Coaster, Mission Space are all clones?

I hate it when people don't want to share the love with WDW. We can't have the Electrical Parade, we can't have Carsland. No wonder the place is so crummy.

Aside from TOT and TT where have the others been cloned?
DisneyTwins
Its not that I don't like something new it's just that I don't like WDI repeating themselves. I would love to see a brand new concept even based on some property a knew big expansion will always be welcome in my book, but we have to give WED (I still sometimes call it that) time to think it through if cloning a attraction (even if its really popular) is the best route (66) to take or go in a different direction.

I'd love to see a cars 2 version of radiator springs racers where you get recruited to C.R.O.M.E and help Mater save lightning in the middle of a huge race.

Not wanting clones is not the same as not wanting good attractions. TDS has almost 0 clones and is one of the best parks in the world. I'm an East Coaster and I'd prefer we didn't get Cars Land and sent the MSEP back to DL where it belongs. I'd much rather have something new!

Precisely. I don't mind rides of the same name that are different... like Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain... and even Tower of Terror have their differences in both ride and look.
Cars Land was made to be just like it looked in the film. I would hope that if WDW gets something from the Cars world, they do something entirely different.

Where has WDW copied the successes of DL? It seems to me like DL has been cloning the successful attractions from WDW.

One name MAGIC KINGDOM :p However I do get your argument since it opened DL has gotten versions of Country Bear Jamboree, Space Mountain, scenes from the Jungle Cruise, almost received a version of EPCOT, Tower of Terror, Muppet Vision and for a while the Monorail looked like WDW's for Peg Leg Pete's sake.

I think most recently it was Toy Story Midway Mania and Star Tours that.... while they opened first in Florida, they were conceived for the Disneyland Resort.
Then there's Ariel's Undersea Adventure for their new Fantasyland. And let's not forget Soarin'.
Recent memory is all people can think of. Disneyland was getting a lot of copycats from Florida for a while too. (Buzz Lightyear, Tower of Terror, Winnie the Pooh).

I think the problem with this statement is that Toy Story Mania opened first at WDW but was designed and developed to be attractions at both WDW and DL so its not really a question of who the original was because they were both intended to open at both resorts.
Star Tours also I am guessing was designed for both coasts. Why would they only give DL the updated version. This is also another attraction that was designed at the same time so there is no original and no clone.
Under the Sea ~ Voyage of the Little Mermaid I am also guessing was designed with the plan of opening it on both coasts. It makes so much more sense in Fantasyland than an aquarium.
Soarin' I give to you and know WDW could have really made a better ride based on the technology and an original film. I abhor that they just cloned it from DCA without making it fit WDW better.
Unfortunately, in today's Disney it seems like whenever they open a new, expensive attraction, they like to debut it on both coasts so then they save on the development costs. If they are going to place two of the same rides on different coasts though, they have to make sure it fits with the theme and story of the park. For example The Little Mermaid in DCA does not belong as it does in Magic Kingdom. Also Soarin' in Epcot does not belong as it is in DCA.
For someone who cannot afford to go all the way to Florida or all the way to California, it is nice that they can experience the same ride that they probably will never be able to experience on the other coasts.
I am not really against Disney sending all East Coasters to WDW and all West Coasters to DL because if everyone was going to WDW and everyone was going to DL, both places would get crowded. Its a form of crowd control I guess.
