    Re: Great Movie Ride Update

I'd keep the Wizard of Oz, Alien and Mary Poppins, although the last two need serious animatronic upgrades. The rest, i'd love to see some new scenes.

    It still has the bubbles

I stand corrected. I thought the article said that the bubbles were one of the effects that weren't working.
Glad to hear they're still there.

Indeed. For all your multi-million dollar AA's there's and equally effective, yet simple illusion that also plays a key part in the experience.

ORDDU: There are times when the bubble effect doesn't work so you're not totally wrong in what you said, Hathaway Browne, duckling. Like so many other effects at the parks, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.

^Sort of a rudimentary way to get repeat riders then eh? Who needs flashy ride-randomiser tech like Star Tours 2 when you can have an intermittent bubble machine

    Re: Great Movie Ride Update

Sadly, it appears that we are on the verge of losing the ride. It is slated to become part of a Pixar Place expansion. While the facade is likely to remain on the Hollywood Blvd side, the interior will give way to something from the Pixar universe.

I'd love to see the ride remain the Great Movie Ride with updated scenes, but the current Imagineers really don't have much connection with the ride and the park long ago lost its way. So it really doesn't matter much.

If it were up to me, I'd scrape everything beyond Hollywood Blvd and Sunset Blvd and start over on the rest of the park.

    Re: Great Movie Ride Update

Personally, I like the idea of a movie ride that is all Disney movies. My favorite attraction growing up was "Mickey's Revue" so I'd be thrilled to see something like that again.

Then again now that Disney owns Marvel, maybe this ride could be transformed into something like Universal's 3D Spider-man, only do live action so you feel like you're in it and use several Marvel super heros, maybe something like The Avengers. I for one would wait in line (often) for a 3D attraction that includes seeing Chris Hemsworth dressed up like Thor.

When? It was off for a little bit recently, but it had nothing to do with the machines

I think sometimes the machines run out of bubble juice (I call it "bubbly" in a very creepy english accent).

The ride's most problematic scene was its first, an extravagant set piece from Busby Berkeley's musical "Footlight Parade", featuring dozens of 1930s bathing beauties rotating on a gigantic, five-tiered cake, as fountains of water shot forth and bubbles filled the room. Rarely could Imagineering get all the effects working simultaneously. As the years went on, they would gradually give up on the scene, first by covering the cake with a partially-see-through scrim, then by removing the art deco details and showgirls on diving boards that led up to the cake, and by turning off the fanciful lighting, fountains, bubble machine, and the cake's rotating mechanism.

So perhaps we should just get rid of this problematic scene and replace it with something else. The question is, what?
Well, since I'm a Musical film fan, I would change the scene and select a different Busby Berkeley number from one of his films, like the Shadow Waltz from "The Gold Diggers of 1933" or the signature song of the same name from the film, "42st Street" to act as a better transition to the Gangster scenes.

Also, this picture and my Avatar was taken with a Nintendo DSi System and Nyko Magnification Lens & Case for DSi.

Well, before you get to the gangster scene, you still have to go through the "Singin' In the Rain" and "Mary Poppins" scenes.
