I read that ILM will still be SFX-for hire. I don't think it will scare away too much business.

I don't think ILM being owned by Disney will scare away the other major studios. It's just contract work. They just get paid for the job they are hired to do and that's it. The effects department doesn't get any of the profits if a film does well at the box office and they don't get residuals every time one of their explosions is shown on television. The threat that if ILM does the effects on our movie Disney will eat our lunch is virtually non-existent and certainly shouldn't overshadow it being one of the best effects companies in the business.
It bothers me when people selectively edit quotes to support whatever point they are trying to prove.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but outside studios (sometimes even Disney) film on the Universal lot, right? Similar situation.

Good call, coastierox! I would LOVE a Muppet area, but I don't know if they are big enough to get their own "studio" alongside Pixar and Lucas. Maybe they could make a new Muppet movie to put in over at the Journey Into Imagination theater instead? Okay now I am getting off-topic, which is what I just complained about other people doing :P
star wars muppet movie
Sooo!! The Disney Empire is now Com...plete (breathing)
With the announcement of Episode 7..brings me to this thought. Who can they get that will compare to Harrison Fords role as Han Solo...Whoever that is will have huge shoes to fill. But An emersive Star Wars land at that Disney Studio park could prove to be just what it needs or Lucas Studios...I guess we will have to stay tuned for more....
I;m kind of surprised that people are writing off the Lucas arts part of the deal. This gives Disney a way to market any future Marvel games under Lucas arts. It also gives them countless number of star wars games and all that. From a marketing stand point it allows them to older players who might not want to buy a game with it saying it's a Disney interactive symbol. (like how they do with touchstone in film) It gives them a way to expand themselves as a third party game maker. While Disney still will market games under the Disney interactive license (Epic Mickey) It can produce different games not entirely related with Disney stuff through Lucas arts.
Funny thing about that though. Disney has their own video game label. Disney Interactive. They really don't need LucasArts for that.
You got to remember that Disney wasn't the powerhouse back when Star Wars was first made that it is now.
