Are dragons coming to New Fantasyland?

Well, we already have a Maleficent Dragon experience during FANTASMIC! ... I wonder if there is work to duplicate this effect @ another Walt Disney Theme Park (or include a Night Time Dragon experience within Fantasyland?) ... I do not see this working in the day time, unless it is within a show building (a dark ride audio animatromic experience) ....

While I really really wish this was for Beastly Kingdom, I don't think that's the case since it's happening at Fantasyland and not the Animal Kingdom.

From what I could gather from around the interwebs, Disney may be just showing the dragon for one night only (the New Fantasyland dedication and opening) to tie the dragon story they are pushing online in with the actual area of the park.

By my guess, I wouldn't expect it to be anything more than a sad attempt at viral marketing.

From what I also gathered, Beastly Kingdomme is a good as dead because Avatar has gotten over it's rough spot in the development process and will be taking over Camp Minnie-Mickey in the future.

The dragon is rumored to go to Shanghai once it opens, however.

Your posts always make me smile.

I'm having a strange feeling that this will be directly related to Animal Kingdom. They claim this beast is banished from the new Fantasyland. On their blog, they posted a silhouette of the same dragon seen on the Animal Kingdom logo.

Maybe their whole "scheme" is the fact that since the dragon has been banished from the new Fantasyland, they will give it home in the Animal Kingdom.

I agree with you. Just as with numerous other cool R&D derived elements (Lucky?, Wall-E?), they are generally only used in rare occasions (if at all). I don't see this dragon being used in any significant manner, especially as in a day-to-day operation. As you mentioned, it will most likely be used in special promotional settings.

From what I understand, the dragon is all about Fantasyland right now. Nothing Animal Kingdom related.

I still say SHAME on Disney for doing this ONLY for media and not guests.
