Moldy Malestrom

So I was at Epcot last night, and decided to take a ride on Malestrom in Norway. The ride was disgusting.

1. Ceiling tiles missing, and gaping in most show rooms
2. The queue carpet was filthy
3. The Queue Mural was black from people touching it
4. The life hill tunnel was missing a few speakers
5. There was mold on a lot of walls
6. The 3 headed trolls movement was largely not working... just basic up and down, with some shuttering in the middle
7. Speakers were missing throughout the ride with either exposed wires or gaping holes
8. everything looked dirty and filthy (and not in a 'this is part of the show' kind of way)
9. Exit theater's carpet was disgusting
10. Exit theaters screen seemed dirty

I was embarrassed on the ride, and was really shocked by how much in disrepair this ride actually is in.

Has anyone else noticed how much this ride is in disrepair?

Trolls the don't move anymore... only a head bob now.

A rock that is burnt cutaway, left open

Paint chipped, worn, coming off



Eleventh:
Moldy ceiling and missing tiles

Black Mold on the drop mural (unable to get a photo due to the location on the drop)

So is this what people are paying 100.00 a day to see?

Why do people at Disney expect people to return to Walt Disney World
for attractions like this that people at Disney probably aren't excited about?

Even if this ride were restored, would it still be worthwhile?

I still think it's a great ride that should be preserved as much as possible. It unique, mystical and not tied to a Disney film. I can't believe Disney is leaving this ride to rot.

I see it at USH, Jurassic Park is in total despair.

Do you believe that is an honest justication for letting a ride rot into shambles? No. That's a Six Flags mentality. Disney should be better than that.

I love Maelstrom. It's not the only ride in WDW that's gross, however. I would place the falling apart rock work at Splash Mountain as a bigger priority for TDO than moldy ceiling tiles...

I'm not sure if that's the point. Whether it's an A ticket attraction or an E ticket one, the point ( to me ) is that this is a Disney attraction so dammit, there's standards to be held. ( Shakes fist in general direction or Orlando. ) I've never heard of any Disney park attraction looking this bad, not even unpopular ones. ....not even the restrooms. ....not even the gutters on Main Street.

Wow Eric, Thanks for bring this to my attention, I think that if when we go in Jan the property is in this much disrepair there'll be a long string of letters...Did anyone around you say anything about the rides disgusting shape?

Edit: Sorry but in addition to the long string of letters, I don't think I'd be going to WDW for awhile...this makes me sad/angry at the same time...

maybe it gives disney an excuse to overhaul the attraction a bit and, you know make it like somewhat about real Norwegian people lol. i still love the attraction but it does need a bit of an update anyways, especially with the audio in both the ride and the post show.

I didn't really notice anything wrong when I went in Late October/Early November...

me either. It's the people who WANT to look at what's wrong versus I guess us, the people who choose not to look at what's wrong with an attraction, park, light pole, fence, bench, etc.

My home and car aren't perfect and neither are the theme parks.

I'm surprised honestly, I would have expected them to have kept up the ride properly since the Malestorm is a good crowd eater during the "busier" season at WDW. Although this might just be the crews being behind schedule. I remember a long post about IASW being in a state of decay but when I visited a few months later the ride was in a really nice state (well apart from the monkey rope that decays in .2 seconds of being replaced). Some pictures would be nice.

When I was there at the end of November the only thing I really noticed on the Maelstrom was the lack of animation on the three headed troll. It's a Small World and Splash Mountain were in far worse shape. I usually don't go out of my way to look for problems but when practically every animatronic broken or missing like they are on Splash Mountain it's hard not to notice. I was going to take pictures but I didn't think it was worth riding a second time, and Splash Mountain (when it works) is my favorite attraction. The Maelstrom looks brand new by comparison.
