-Spectro has been moved from its old location in parade storage behind Splash Mountain into a larger storage building, near where they keep all of the holiday decorations off of Facilities Way.
-It is absolutely heartbreaking to see how rotten, decayed, and termite-eaten the floats have become. So much so, that 75% of the floats are completely unable to be driven.
-The only floats that are still somewhat in working condition are Mickey's Cape float, the title float, the Spectromen's Whirlyballs (though I'm not sure about all four pods, I know at least two are okay), and both of the Whirly Fish pods.
-Nearly all of the parade budget is being put into MiSiCi so they do not have what would be needed to update/fix Spectro.
-As of last week, Disney has brought in an antique specialist who focuses exclusively on repairing antiques into working/operable condition. I don't know what was said during the meeting, nor the outcome.
WHY is all that money going to MISICI???????? Is something changing with MISICI???? Or do you have MISICI confused with CADCT or the New Day Parade? MISICI is just a Street Party. I hope it stays that way meaning MK keeps CADCT until the new Day Parade

No, I did not mean CaDCT. I was told all of the parade budget was going into MiSiCi, I have no idea specifically what for or if it's changing soon. No one at Disney is learning a new parade as of right now. If anything, CaDCT needs an update more than anything. More specifically, the castle float. If you were to stand on it, you'd think the thing was way older than its' 20+ years, and riding on it is almost dangerous. It got stuck on Monday on the bridge between the Hub and Liberty Square, and had to be towed back into parade base front of all the guests. Horrible show.

    Re: SpectroMagic, Any word?

For us non-CM's, what's MISICI and CaDCT?

I had no idea Spectro was in such horrible shape. It's a WAY better parade then MSEP and that's terrible they didn't maintain it. I know people have fond memories of MSEP, but its so outdated, it's embarrassing. Nobody even knows what half the floats are. Sorry to say, but Pinocchio and Pete's Dragon don't have nearly the staying power of other Disney movies. My kids could care less about MSEP because they can't relate to it at all. As for me, the horrible 80's synthesizer music playing over and over again drives me insane.

We always go in October and loved seeing the MNSSHP parade and Spectro. They were both extremely good shows with each holding their own in terms of quality. Last time we went we took my in-laws (who had never been before) and saw MNSSHP parade the first night. They were blown away. The second night we saw MSEP and were completely let down. It was nowhere near the quality of the Halloween parade and was literally embarrassing. I found myself apologizing to my in-laws for making them wait 2 hours on a curb for a show that was second rate and obviously outdated.

When you see a first class parade on one night and then the "hand-me-down, you keep it" parade the second night, it makes you wonder who the crap is running the place and why am I paying outrageously over-inflated prices for it. I'm so frustrated by WDW's relentless price increases coupled with lack of upkeep and cutbacks over the last 5 years, that for the first time in my life, I don't have any desire to return. The new fantasyland is an insult when you compare it to the DCA refurbishment. Heck. It's an insult when you compare it to Harry Potter world and that's before their new expansion they're building.

If Spectromagic is truly dead with no foreseeable replacement, then it's a sad day for WDW fans everywhere. For me, it's just one more nail in the coffin.

George... You're our only hope. Tell Meg to shove it and PLEASE start investing again!!

Not really. Stuff happens (even at Disney).

While parade floats sometimes have malfunctions and have to be towed down the route, I think the point the other poster was trying to get across was that this is a more common occurrence now on the older floats, especially the 25-30 year old castle float. It's just bad show to have this become the norm, where the floats have to basically be towed the length of the entire route constantly.

I can understand many of you who think fondly of the old Electrical Parade now running and how much you love Spectro Magic. I know a lot of this has to do with "Nostalgia". However, please understand that aside from being cheap, the management at Disney World appears to use nostagia as an excuse to NOT invest money on new, technically advanced entertainment.
I'm not saying that those old parades are enjoyable anymore, as they still are. But the time to replace and update has long been overdue. It's time for Disney to "show us the money" and offer a night time parade that is equal to or surpasses the jaw dropping majesty of Tokyo Disneyland's Dreamlights Parade. I mean.. The original electrical parade is about 40 years old and Spectro magic is 20 years old.. C'mon. Even Reflections of Earth at Epcot has to go as well. It's time for Disney World's entertainment to reflect advances from the 21st century. Anything that has "Celebrate the Magic", "Remember the Magic", or street party as it's name NEEDS TO GO. Remembering the past only makes me awared of how much better Disney World used to be as opposed to now a days.

    Re: SpectroMagic, Any word?

Oh I remember Move It Shake It Celebrate It. That's the annoying joke of a parade that happens 25,000 times a day and along with the castle stage shows exists only to make sure that nobody ever wants to attempt to cross the hub.

I liked the old Main Street Electrical Parade. The new one feels like the Star Wars special editions. It's newer and shinier but somehow has less heart. I'd rather have SpectroMagic back.
It bothers me when people selectively edit quotes to support whatever point they are trying to prove.

    Re: SpectroMagic, Any word?

A well-known poster on another Disney forum basically confirmed that Spectro has seen it's final days, stating that it would cost $2.6 million to fix all the problems its improper storage has caused. They also said that MSEP will run indefinitely. While I can't personally say whether or not this is true, with the way Spectro's rumors sound now, I'd believe this news.

MiSiCi = Move it! Shake it! Celebrate it! Street Party
CaDCT = Celebrate a Dream Come True (3:00 day parade at MK)

I haven't heard anything more since my last post in regards to Spectro.

Yes! Exactly. The castle float breaks down entirely too often, especially by Disney standards. It breaks down once every two weeks or so, 99% of the time on the bridge between the Hub and Liberty Square because there's a dip in the pavement. The float just gets stuck there and doesn't seem to have enough power to keep rolling forward. The princes and princesses have to quickly be evac-ed in front of guests while the float is towed. Like I said before, HORRIBLE show.

As far as Reflections of Earth, the only update I'm aware of are the new lasers being put in sometime later this year (same for Fantasmic!). If there were any plans to change the show, I would assume I'd have heard wind of it by now. I agree that Reflections desperately needs a refurb, if not a new show altogether. I'm over the globe prop; to me it's not nearly big enough to be seen and enjoyed by everyone watching (also it reminds me too much of Universal's famous globe).
Speaking of new shows though, the buzz backstage is that Wishes! is looking at its last year. They're really about to jump on the projection technology used for the Magic, Memories, and You and rumor has it that they're considering using the castle moat as part of the show. Supposedly they're looking at somehow combining MM&Y, Fantillusion, and World of Color as a brand new castle show. As much as I love Wishes!, I agree that its glory days are over and it's time we get something fresh and different.

This is consistent with rumors I heard a while back, which talked about a new show for the hub incorporating projections and fountains (didn't know it was replacing Wishes though).
