Let me just leave this here: PlayStation Network outage - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"At the time of the outage, with a count of 77 million registered PlayStation Network accounts,[7] it was one of the largest data security breaches in history.[8][9] It surpassed the 2007 TJX hack which affected 45 million customers.[10]"
yes it happens I acknowledged that. In fact when this happened my account was compromised BUT my credit history and card numbers were safe. They contacted me to go over the details. Then i was followed up by emails. And guess what nothing happened to my credit card information or my identity. Which showed me something on their end worked correctly

now the second part of that story. Guess what happened to the rest of corporations around the world when this happened??? Ok i gave you long enough more laws came about from the incident. After this incident my company put in more protection which I implemented myself on top of all the requirements we have to go through to protect customer data. Like I said before though if you don't trust it don't use it easy enough. And yes I know it can happen but it seems like a lot of worrying for nothing especially given the fact Disney already has your information anyways. If you are already paranoid about this I would stay out of the parks all together unless you can pay cash for everything you do there and I mean everything.

Passive RFID is good for about 20 feet or so tops.

Sticking readers on lampposts pretty much covers the park.

And as far as legal compliance goes. We're back to "is the cost of non-compliance less than compliance" in terms of risk management, and since I see so much 'burying heads in sand to ignore the potential risks' I'm pretty sure how it's going to go.

Again, my point isn't PCI compliance. It's not about YOUR credit card numbers.

It's the entire new range of vulnerabilities, such as the magpie application for billing purchases to other suckers I outlined above, and the potential personal security issues.

PCI compliance deals to customer data that means everything about your customers. Names, addresses, phone numbers etc. Plus these systems wont have that data on them anyways. And I dont think anyone has denied any risks which is why peoplelike me have a job in the first place to protect consumers data which includes my own.

This is all I would want (& I wouldn't even call it MyMagic+) - FREE WIFI all over the Disneyland Hotels & Theme Parks (I could shut off my 4G Network & improve my battery life) ....

FREE WIFI is already happening here in Las Vegas (starting with the MGM - Mandalay Bay owned Resort Casinos) ....

There is no official source for this. Just people who are involved stating what was installed.

My issue with this program is that in addition to taking all the spontaneity out of a trip to an amusement park, it also means longer lines and inconvenience for people not in it. And that is the point of the program, yet another freaking upsell. How about letting people have fun without the company overthinking it like this?

There were a number of threads in 2012 discussing Disney's application to the FCC for its "Magic Band" device, which broadcasts at 2.4GHz. A brief article about it is here, which contains a link to Disney's full FCC filing.

These things aren't just passive RFID tags, they're also radio transmitters.

(And mikelieman's posts above are dead on target.)

Thanks for this. I'm still a tad suspicious of the claim that Disney will be placing these in locations not associated with cash registers, FP+, and the like, but I will keep my eyes and ears open for any and all information regarding to just that.

I firmly believe hat as long as Iger is CEO things are just going to get worse and it will likely take a miracle for his successor to reverse that.

All I care about is whether or not I can get Fastpasses the way I do now, instead of reserving one 2 years in advance the way that MyMagic+ seems to want consumers to use?

Exactly the current system can cause confusion with some guests, so let's complicate somethings more for them....I still don't see the need for Fastpass at all, IMO just slows stuff down for folks in the standby line.
