I don't know how i feel about this. like they said in the article "think pirates of the Caribbean with the boats chained together" with that kind of close proximity to the next boat it would kind of take away from the feeling that your...you know....in a boat. just seems kind of odd to me. disney must have a very specific application for this in mind to have it make sense.

It seems so dull. Boat rides should not be chained down. It needs to be free floating.

What really matters is how they use this in a show. What will the guests see and experience from this vehicle? Like anything, it has the potential to be the greatest new thing, or the worst. Let's hope they put most of their attention on the show itself, and not just the vehicle.

Guess it could be just for Shanghai. At a push I guess it could be something like the Rhine River Cruise, but I doubt that.

HATHAWAY, I think you're on to something.

Didn't Disney say there's going to be some kind of boat ride under the castle? Kind of a replacement for "it's a small world" or something like that, to be based on fairy tales?

Here's a picture of it and I have one question about it. What is that thing in the back of the building. To me it almost looks like a giant ditch that you float over.

It looks like a sunken ship. This looks like it could be a Pirates themed ride?

Re: Disney submits plans for an omnimover boat ride

Just putting it out there. I found an article at the Imagineering Disney website that had a picture of the Rhine River Cruise ride layout. It looks a little like this patent

Full article if you want to read it.

About 2/3 down the page, it shows the tubs of the ride, with people pointed one way. Look at it close and youll see the tubs are all connected. Id say, looks like a good possibility of it might be the Rhine River.

Wasn't the Motorboat cruise essentially an omnimover boat ride? :P

In the full patent it mentions that the link is not solid and allows the indvidual boats some movement to bob.

Re: Disney submits plans for an omnimover boat ride

The boats are tied together and are floating in the water. That's probably why they have a wave machine. It looks ugly in the patent, but it's probably much better looking when it's built

Re: Disney submits plans for an omnimover boat ride

It seems a bit weird. With all the boats attached like this being driven by a chain I would think that these boats wouldn't feel like they were floating. This makes me wonder why you would have a boat at all except to fit the ride's theme. It's a very strange ride system and I don't really get the reason for it other than purely for higher capacity. There has to be a better way.
It bothers me when people selectively edit quotes to support whatever point they are trying to prove.
