There is nothing funny about non-union labor ignoring the local electrical code and regulation, wiring up a fixture underwater improperly and killing a child.

Should the pools be kept open "at your own risk" after a certain time? Or should Disney provide lifeguards at all times that guests may access their swimming pools?

I think the pools should just be closed at a certain time, where no one can go swimming after the lifeguards leave

Some comments here are cold and those that made them should get a one year ban... atleast. But I´m not the boss.

To prevent this they should have more guards at the pool areas. A 13 year should not have to go to the pool with his parents. It should be safe for a teen to be alone in the pool.

The thing is, according to the article, this happened after the lifeguards left. So having more lifeguards wouldn't have done anything

They should have closed the pool off and have a guard walking there atleast for a while. It could be worth it...

I don't know how affective a lifeguard working at 3 AM would be, considering it's a job built on alertness and attention.

Disney should probably close the pools after a certain time. However, this isn't Disney's fault per se, and this could have happened anywhere. In any case, our thoughts and prayers should go out to the poor boy's family.

That's why they call it the graveyard, or overnight shift. And I don't mean that in any reference to someone dieing, because that is what the shift is called with that time frame of hours. But people who are used to working those hours have their body & mind trained to work those hours. Some people prefer to work those type of hours. I have worked around many people who consider themselves "night owls."

As far as I know, the pools do have hours. It wouldn't surprise me to see all the pools being gated soon. I wouldn't blame them if they decide to do it.

From what I've seen, many of the pools have a "swim-at-your-own-risk" after the official pool hours (which is what happened here). I'm torn on the matter- I think it would be best to gate all the pools and close them after the lifeguards leave. However, I also enjoy swimming at night
