    Nice observation, thanks! A good "tell" / inference. Would be a great to see a photo of the current slightly out of alignment projection. Hard to obtain in the HM's low-light conditions. But that would be a great proof.

    Not only that it might be a front projection, a guest cannot see the floor during this part of the attraction. The riders are on a sliver of ground, bounded in by another pair of bannisers, giving the illusion that we, too, are going up stairs. The projectors could be hidden over this lip, this edge.

    Thanks Roo! More pieces of the puzzle / evidence.

    Hopefully someday a CM will post lights-on photos of the floor area. Or at least inquire a bit more about the set-up. I understand lights-on, early morning tours of the Haunted Mansion in WDW are conducted quite often as Cast Member only Team Building events.
