Omnimover ride stopping - out of control on my recent visit!

I was in the Magic Kingdom last Thursday, and it just became a running joke that rides were constantly stopping on us. We spent more time stopped on the Haunted Mansion than we spent moving. Mermaid stopped multiple times, as did Buzz Lightyear... plus Imagination and Gran Fiesta Tour at Epcot. I didn't do SS Earth this time, but I'm sure it would have been a mess of stops too.

As a former CM I know that a lot of times when an Omnimover stops its to allow someone with a disability to board, but there comes to a point where the constant stopping becomes awful show and totally ruins the experience. The only other reasons I could see for the stoppage is that they are really breaking down (possibly on the non omnimover rides; Imagination, as the ride went completely out of sync after the stop and after we got off it was listed as closed for a while, and Gran Fiesta tour where the boats just floated in silence from the second room through to the finale) or possibly riders (probably non english speaking) misbehaving.

Am I being insensitive in thinking they need to limit how often they will stop rides to allow wheelchair transfer for the sake of show?

I think sometimes you just get a bad day. The last few times I have been on HM, I haven't experienced any stops or crawls, but again it is like a slot machine! Maybe you were accidentally traveling around the parks with a group of people who needed more assistance without even knowing it! lol

They invented (or at least it was in the blueprints) an effective means of boarding a wheelchair access vehicle for The Little Mermaid without majorly disrupting the ride. Did this ever happen or what?

Even though this is probably a "No Sh--" to you, they built these things to be sensative to issues that may arise for safety sake. The system could've been just having a fit that day.

For rides like Buzz and HM, trash could've hit pressure mats somewhere, causing the thing to stop. Gran Fiesta tour always has backed-up loading, so that could've been the issue.

You realize we're aging right along with everyone else, right?

Sounds like you just got a bad day. When I was at MK last Tuesday, we stopped 2 or 3 times on Haunted Mansion. I just cracked up laughing every time. I love when stuff like that happens. It used to happen to me all the time on Spaceship Earth (and always during the backwards descent), but it hasn't happened in a long time.

To me, a ride through the HM where I was frequently stopped would be a great ride! I'd love the opportunity to get more time looking at each scene.

I don't think that's insensitive at all. Yes, we need to accommodate those who need a little more help. But to do so at the expense of a good show for the rest of us isn't fair at all.

Ever since I saw the patent for that gizmo I've been waiting to see it put to use, but it looks like they cheaped out. Again.
