Very accurate, and would lead one to believe that infrastructure improvements would precede a fifth park at WDW. DLR has some advantages and disadvantages, a disadvantage being the acute lack of parking spaces, and an advantage, (at least in the eyes of the upper brass) is that guests are 100% responsible for their transportation to the esplanade (minus the tram), and travel between DCA and Disneyland is "complimentary" in that you can easily walk between the two parks.

WDW provides complimentary bus service to their four parks, and you can bet that WDW execs would love to charge guests to help defray the cost. In fact, you'd have to kinda wonder if they might like using Next Gen technology so that guests would have to pay for monorail and/or bus service, each time they used either service.

In a way, a TTC fifth gate, next to the TTC parking lot that is (not in it), linked via the monorails/ferries and perhaps an in-park People Mover system might be as close as WDW can get to DLR's arrangement, or at least one which avoid the use, and cost, of buses, of which there are probably close to 350 in operation on any given day. A People Mover would require an upfront investment, but one which would certainly be recouped over a period of time.

I think it sounds great, I wish I could see a map of the specific location you're talking about.

There's a tiny sliver of the this piece of land in the nothern portion that is part of the 100-year flood plain, as is Epcot's lake, could well be part of a water feature. Brown indicates where the TTC parking lot could be expanded. Land north of this park could be used for an abutting hotel, people mover station would be in the north-east/Star Wars-Wookie area of the park. Showbuildings/restaurants/shops in green, first aid and backstage areas such as ODV and parade buildings not shown, though copious space in southern part of park, and first aid would have immediate access to roadways, water features in pink. I went back and sketched in the Tatooine area of Star Wars land as an orange area in the park, which would also feature a Pod Racers attraction (WDI hinted about at D23), impossible to draw such a twisty track.

If you look at Malificent's castle as being in the center of the this over-sized Shanghai style hub, which would include a moderate sized Forbidden Mountain rockwork around it, then you have, taking this as the center of the clock:

10 o'clock: Tatooine sub-land (Pod Racers, Mos Eisley Cantina and Bantha milk)
11 o'clock: Coruscant sub-land (Coruscant Speeders E-Ticket with outdoors portions and interior "outer space" show scenes, additional D/C tickets).
    12 - 1 o'clock: Wookie sub-land/Lake-festival area, Chewbaca's Kashyyyk Adventure.
2 o'clock: Pixie Hollow, Tinker Bell Dark Ride, meet and greets.
3 o'clock: "Villain" courtyard with dark rides perhaps such as a Malificent dark ride, a "Beast" dark ride (Yes, Disney Beauty and the Beast will be turned into a live action film) and a Alice dark ride based on Tim Burton's version, perhaps even a Haunted Mansion Holiday-style dark ride . . . only it might end up in its own little Halloweentown sub-land.
5 o'clock: Malificent's dungeon, an eatery which might well give Be Our Guest a ran for its money and it might incorporate an animatronic show with magical effects.
6 o'clock . . . if you're not into Artemis Fowl, or don't like dwarfs, fairies, sprits, goblins, warlocks and high speed thrill rides along with a miniature recreation of Irish/Scottish countryside on par, or perhaps surpassing World Showcase pavilions, and aren't interested in a Brave E-Ticket . . . then this area of the park might not be for you.
9 o'clock, the fifth's gate "Main Street" which if you didn't like Oz the Great and Powerful, you might want to keep your eyes closed. But for guests who can keep their eyes open (and don't mind seeing a whole lot of flowers), they can make reservations for horse-drawn buggy rides down this very colorful street to Malificent's foreboding castle, or if they're brave enough, jump on the "hay ride" train which travels behind the yellow brick road and through Oz's scary forrest to a stop in the villain's courtyard, but not before grabbing a bite at the Yellow Brick Road Bakery.

Thanks for sharing. I wonder if Disney's 5th Florida gate and 3rd California gate will have the same theme or be different parks.

I'm 40 and I don't think I will see a 5th gate in WDW in my lifetime. I think the next 10 years will be spent plussing the existing parks in a big way and Disney continuing to research new ways to increase guest spending and increase hotel occupancy rates.

May you live to see a new park before you're 50.

I would looooooove that but I think there is no question that the next stateside park will be in Anaheim, and that is most likely at least 10 years away. My understanding is that Disney isn't even considering a 5th gate for WDW anymore. I believe they are considering boutique parks that are more about some sort of experience for those who can afford it, but not a typical theme park with rides and shows. Think a different themed version of a Discovery Cove type park.

Go back up to Post 49.

The "boutique park" idea was a fad that circulated before Dis bought Marvel and Lucas.

Those properties are too hot (and expensive) to fit that formula when you compare to the Uni Potter deal. Universal went big and mainstream, just as Cars boosted DCA.

I don't think "boutique" is the new direction anymore.

PS I know Dis can't use Marvel in Florida now, but nonetheless - if they want to hold back Lucas' properties from Studios and put them in a fifth park, they could. Indiana Jones could have a new adventure, too.

[QUOTE=chesirecat;1057024958] . . . uh, yeah, a 1.5 story building that is mostly built like a warehouse will sink into the ground . . . not. [QUOTE]

More like 3.5 stories + one of the heaviest ride systems ever designed. I'm not supporting Jim's arguments. But you are making it seem as if they could just put RSR under a tent and move it from city to city if they wanted to.

RSR's showbuilding in terms of dead weight is like a 1.5 to 2 story building, regardless of its height.

For example, Costco's warehouse store is probably close to a 2 story building in height, but not in weight as there ain't no second floor. The weight of the track doesn't add much in terms of construction issues regarding foundations, at least nothing that would preclude construction in Florida.

Typically, showbuildings which are built like big Costco's don't weigh as much as you might figure given that they are mostly empty on the inside.

No the original plan had been to open Cars Land without RSR, and now the whole thing APPEARS to be dropped, but this is all just rumor and speculation, Disney had never announced anything either way.
