Lightbulb Carousel of Progress: 4.0 (?)

Being a huge fan of this attraction, I ask you this:
The attraction has had no REAL refurbs (scrims aside) since the redo in 1994
Do you think the Carousel needs a redo?
Will Steven Stanton actually put his Rex Allen impression to good use?

It does need a redo but I'm concerned that many would consider CoP to be on its last legs. Should Tomorrowland in MK get a makeover similar to one planned in DL it could be the end for this attraction.

I hope they keep this attraction, I love it, but it desperately needs some help. With the history of this ride, I don't see it going anywhere. When I first saw it, in the 70s, there were lines to get in. Now, its a walk on. They need to do something to bring back the magic of it. I always thought the outside looked dull.

Well I think with the rumors around the one in DL, which is not CoP but another revolving attraction, there may be some truth that they will both be replaced at some point.

I do enjoy it as it takes me back to my childhood, but it does need a top to bottom rehab.

I'd love to see an updated COP. With all the changes since 94 it would be good to see our family using their tablets etc.

in my ideal fantasy Walt Disney World COP would move to EPCOT after the last act you'd exit via the stage as in the original attraction and then board a dark ride which would be an update of the last half of Horizons showing life in the mid 21st century.

I know it's not gonna happen but it's nice to think that it's just a dream away

I would also love to see the whole show updated. I would like to see it modernized, and revamped, and the pacing changed a bit.

    I looooooooooooove this attraction too!

When should they get to work to quickly improve it?
To quote the Sherman Bros' CoP 2.0, "Now is the time! Now is the best time. . ."

    Possible update:
Room 1 set in a room at the top of the Contemporary looking down at the Magic Kingdom in 1971.
Room 2 in a room at the Poly in 1982 a parent mentions the newly opened EPCOT.
Room 3 in a room with a balcony at the AK Lodge, a parent discusses the two new parks and shows off her/his new cell phone.
Room 4 Thomas Staggs shows off his MagicBand, and explains that his kids are off at Universal Orlando.

    BEST IDEA EVER! LOL

Heck why don't they just turn it into a Magic Band demonstration with animatronics.

Tear it out of the Magic Kingdom, restore it to its original version, and send it to The Henry Ford.

Not a bad idea, but they would take less care of it!
And what of the empty building that would be left at WDW ?

Re: Carousel of Progress: 4.0 (?)

I think the Carousel of Progress really belongs in EPCOT and would be marvelous there. To me, it's always felt like an educational sort of attraction that is more at home at EPCOT.

I doubt Disney would ever spend the money to relocate it there though. But they spent the money years ago to move it from California to Florida. My wish would be for it to go to EPCOT.

And, actually...I think EPCOT could support a "Yesterdayland" area that could be really cool. Retired Disney attractions could be rebuilt in Yesterdayland (borrowing that name from the awesome website Yesterdayland) and that land could be themed to Disney history...with exhibits on the parks, on Walt's life, and on the changing parks through the years. Just imagine if instead of things going away forever they could exist in some form in Yesterdayland.

I would love that to pieces.

Re: Carousel of Progress: 4.0 (?)

It could probably use a minor update just to include some of the latest technology. (Let's face it, tech hasn't advanced that much in the last two decades. The most we've had is more smart phones & tablets. Then there's the Google glasses.) But improve it slightly, but keep the classic. They probably won't ever bring back America Sings, and so many people want that brought back. But if they remove COP, it might upset a lot of people. I went on it a few weeks ago, and there was barely anyone on it in the middle of the afternoon.
