I was there Monday and I asked what the crane was for at Guest Relations. I was told that it was just for routine maintenance. Darn it. The CM did make the joke that we keep telling people the wand broke off and the ball rolled into World Showcase but no one seems to believe them. LOL
He also mentioned the crane would be bigger if the wand was being removed.
I don't like or dislike the hat. It's cute but I do think that it overshadowing some great things in the area, mainly TGMR. The whole point originally was to showcase the Chinese Theater and its just not proportioned correctly IMHO.
Regardless of my view of the Sorcerer Mickey hat, calling someone's opinion a lame argument is what is really lame. Opinions are not meant to be arguments, they are opinions. From dictionary.com: opinion: A belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof. There is no such thing as a lame opinion. There is such thing as a lame person who criticizes others' opinions. Being a little more open-minded and not thinking that your opinion is fact would go a long way. I have strong views on issues like abortion and stem cell research, but I am not about to call someone else's opinion "lame." Kindergarteners do that (e.g. "I kicked Billy because he didn't like my frog.").

Okay, my opinion... I hate the hat. They totally goofed on it. It should be much bigger. That theatre, as nice as it is, is a direct competetor with Disney's El Capitan across the street. It doesn't belong in the Disney-MGM Studios any longer. Nor does the Great Movie Ride. I'd love to see both go for a real attraction that you'd experience by going through a hat to get to... so to fix the problem, I'd re-do the hat into the entrance for a new attraction. The hand prints would be moved in front of the hat, and the area behind the hat enclosed into a new attraction, with no Chinese Movie Theater Facade. On the roof of this building would be new fireworks launch sites, and interactive dancing fountains on either side of the hat, cascading down the sides of the building as waterfalls.
The new ride inside would be based on Disney Animation, the art, and the magic of being sucked into movies... deciding your own fate.
The roof would host the parks fireworks show at night.
That's my re-development plan for that hat. lol Not what you were expecting, was it?
Can we please not turn this into a hat discussion thread, there are other threads for that. My problem is that every time The Hat is thrown into a thread, it goes on all types of tangents (sometimes even secants) & a whole lot of arguments ensue (none of which having to do with the original topic). I know there aren't a lot of changes currently, but that is what this thread was made for. Thanks.
