Yes, looking at them the other day at EPCOT, they are painted flats and while the design of them is cute... they reek in cheapness. I sure hope thet do something a bit more permanent and stylish in the immediate future.

Well hopefully, with noted changes inside the ride since Siemens took the sponsorship, maybe they will spread to the outside and the signs will be changed and around the ride, because I guess the track is fairly old.

That other site has a picture of the post show sign & it does look pretty cool. It has an Odessey feel to it.

Someone on the other board suggested that they are probably putting this sign up temporarily while they add the Siemens logo to the official one. This is a completely different sign as the Spaceship Earth letters are painted & not 3d/lights up at night.

As an update, the entrance sign has been updated to a permanent fixture (with the 3-Dimensional lettering back). Pictures can be seen at a certain other website.

I like the sign. It goes with the ride.

Look, There could be a hand with a wand that says Siemens on it on the outside of the building! This is nothing!

You know, normally I would, but just the thought of SSE alone now makes me sick. Something really needs to be done. I'd rather not think of SSE and their new sponsorship until some drastic and worthwhile changes are made. Besides, I think photoshop has had enough of wand editing for this yearly quarter.

You don't like the SSE? It is one of my favorite omnimover rides. Slow, relaxing, airconditioned. But it has looked sort of run down for a few years.

That might be what he was talking about, but hey, if a new sponsor can update it *but not drastically* and make it a "new attraction" again I'm all for it...

...I just don't want to lose Mr Iron's narration or any of the beautiful music added in 1994.

Not just looks, feels and sounds run down also...just hearing the wheeels turning and gettting stuck like the little engine that could shows this ride needs some TLC. Although, no major changes, except maybe the finale, since this is a wonderful attraction!

I definitely hope they can work on the bumpiness and loudness of the ride. I'd love for it to be a smooth quiet ride. It'd also be nice if they could darken it up a bit more. There are spots where you can see the framework quite easily.

I'm glad to see that things are getting slowly better to Ray's ride. It is one of my favorite attractions in WDW.

    Re: Spaceship Earth Changes

Any good Disney parks has at least one ride that's not the greatest ever but was done in such an elaborate way that it blows you away (ie POTC), and one ride that is basically an Imagineering tour de force with every gimmick at their disposal (ie Haunted Mansion.)

For Epcot, SSE is the pirates ride. I don't think there's anything in the show that was particularly groundbreaking by 1980s Disney standards, but the setting, the vehicles rolling through the ball and how they fit all of that in there is incredible.

Looking at the old videos, I'd say the original Imagination ride filled the HM role. It seems to represent Imagineering circa 1980 about as well as HM did Imagineering circa 1970.

Strangely, since then they've been opening parks like mad but the only recent ride that fills the role of special effects showcase is Indy.
