Re: Construction Begins For AVATAR-Inspired Land At Disney’s Animal Kingdom

^Hmm I don't know, even though it does seem like a case of renting in an IP to bring in the crowds, WDI still have to produce a land and attractions that not only live up to the high standards they are known for, but also the requirements that James Cameron and the other producers want.

I'm sure that Avatarland has gone through quite a development period with a range of different attractions and themes. And that was probably just the process to pitch to Cameron - no doubt their horizons were broadened once they were granted the license and, one assumes, were able to see details about Avatar II and III.

Safaris will not be closed. They will be creating a nighttime Safari.

Im not going to put this down until I see what they can do. Is it in the wrong park? Probably. Is it the "death" of AK? Nah, just a dumbing down of what it actually represents. But im looking forward to something new, and im hoping its as grand as they are saying.

Hey, isn't there a cartoon on tv called Avatar?

Yes, Avatar The Last Airbender is one of the greatest animated shows ever. Pay no attention to the feature film :P.

Anyway, I'm cautiously optimistic towards this expansion. I'm glad AK is getting something new, and hopefully it will get a boost due to the hopeful release of the sequel being released around the time if opening.

Let's just hope that EPCOT and DHS get much needed attention after this...

Animal Kingdom definitely needed something, unfortunately this isn't it. Of all the ideas put out by both Disney and its fans for adding a land to help park capacity and extend operating hours, Avatar is far and away my least favorite.
It bothers me when people selectively edit quotes to support whatever point they are trying to prove.

And there were no ideas that went from blue sky to ground breaking prior to Avatar. Frankly, I'm excited about Avatar with the concept and the upcoming attractions. There's a lot of eye candy. The nighttime show is very promising.

    The debate is past.

AK no longer stands for Animal Kingdom,

    It's now Avatar Kingdom

I would be totally fanboying if Disney were adding the World of Avatar to one of their parks. Who wouldn't want to stroll down the streets of Ba Sing Se?

Indeed, they are certainly lagging behind now after all that's happened at the other parks.

Well it's a good thing they went with the practical shovels and nothing ridiculous.

Not just EPCOT & DHS are lagging, but the MK and its boring Little Mermaid clone and the rest of what the MK has done (more accurately not done) in the last 12 years, and all that's not happened to the Animal Kingdom. I want to be OVERwhelmed.

    The big things at WDW:

    MK
    --underwhelming Fantasyland
--Do the Dumbos have views as excellent as before? Or, in the trade for capacity, is there now more mediocre Dumbo at WDW?
--The Dwarf Coaster vs. Gringott's will be the news peg for stories about Universal's increasing attendance vs. Disney's stagnation.

    Big thing at EPCOT
    --the merely whelming Mission Space

    Big thing at AK
--cool Everest ride made long ago with broken Yeti not replaced for a long, long time.

Disney is apparently too content with MK's 17 mil a year, especially if R.I.S.C. can waste a billion to get a little more money out of guests.

Why am I tad grouchy? Yesterday I cancelled our June Central Florida reservations. We've decided to wait till Universal Orlando's new (and I predict well earned) Harry Potter mania dies down a little (and the June '14 res. was cutting it close the opening of Gringott's & the other cool stuff) and I want make cure that WDW has (hopefully) made MyMagic+ a smooth running machine that better matches its guests' specific goals.

    Looks tremendously boring to me.

And even worse, looks like Disney no longer knows how to create new stories - just like with Indy, Star Wars and Marvel, they seem to need to get inspiration from somewhere else. That's sad.

Imagine riding on one of those carts in Omashu. It would make a great rollercoaster.

    Yessssssss!

And you know they'd have to have Streetmosphere with those traveling musicians. # Ohhh Badgermole #

Actually.. tying this slightly back to Animal Kingdom, I'd love it if they just have some Red Pandas in the park. (Pabu!)
