WDW 5th Gate... a Star Wars theme park!?

With all this talk about a new and improved Star Tours I cant help but think what the possibilities would hold if Lucas/Disney teamed up to build the ultimate Star Wars destination, a.k.a. a Star Wars theme park as WDW 5th gate.

    What do you think?
    How would you design it?
What are your ideas for the park?
If it did happen what would you like to see the most?

I would like to see 6 different lands themed to each Episode! In classic Disney fashion a "Main Street" type park entrance could be themed to a Space Port. Either Mos Eisley or Corasant. The parks icon could be a giant spaceship earth type Death Star, Jedi Temple or Senate building.

A theme park like this would definetly draw a huge crowd and make WDW an even bigger destination.

I personally do not see another gate opening at WDW in the next 25 yrs or so. The market is saturated and the way I see it, they should be spending the money in improving the MK and other dated areas of WDW, instead of adding more to what is already a resort too big to handle. reason why the overall quality has slipped from what it used to be in the early 90s.

It's not just MK. MGM's west side is a tad barren, and DAK really needs to be something more than it currently is.

I'm pretty sure he realizes that this will never happen. Especially not in the the near term. However, I think he just wants play with different blue-sky ideas.

Why is it that everytime a 5th gate is mentioned, usually someone just bored and wanting to throw some ideas around, someone always has to come in and be like "Whoa. No 5th gate. Ever. Now shut up."

Re: WDW 5th Gate... a Star Wars theme park!?

While I am a huge Star Wars fan an love Star Tours flaws and all (even though I am hoping for an update especially with new ride technologies avalible out there). And I have heard the rumors of a 5th WDW park in Florida for years. I just don't see it happening. First I would much rather see money spent to update and expand the 4 current parks and the existing attractions. Next I really wouldn't even want Disney involved in the making of a Star Wars based themed amusement park. While I love both Disney and Star Wars I would not want them "joined at the hip" in this kind of venture. I am afraid that Star Wars would be far to Disneyised and destroy what makes it special and fun. If an amusement park was to ever to be created (which I highly doubt) I would want Lucas to control the design and construction of the park much like Walt himself did with Disneyland and the designing of WDW. If there ever is to be that 5th park in Florida let it be more along the lines of a Tokyo Sea because that is the shining jem of Disney parks worldwide.

this is almost as unlikely a concept as a villain park.

although i would like to see it built in California though, somewhere in or around Skywalker ranch.

Re: WDW 5th Gate... a Star Wars theme park!?

I think we can discuss the possibility of the theme as a park. I like some parts of the idea. It certainly could inspire a few rides. My concern is that Star Wars is a much bigger draw for males than females. A theme needs to appeal to a wide range of people, young and old, male and female, kids and parents. I feel the same about a "Princess" themed park. It would appeal primarily to only to some.

Sometimes a theme is large enough for a "land" but maybe not for a whole park. I like the Star Wars theme. It might be a good "land" for say DS. I can see a restaurant themed for it as well as a couple rides more than just the present Star Tours. Yet, I have a caution. It would need to be flexible to incorporate new space themes. Remember that Star Wars is a 30 year old franchise. Its popularity is on the downward slope of the bell curve. New space themes needs to be paired with it so be fresh for present day kids.

Re: WDW 5th Gate... a Star Wars theme park!?

I'd love to see a 5th park myself. I do agree that the current 4 parks need work, so resources should go to maintaining and improve them. I have no idea when it'll happen or if it'll happen, but I think making it a Star Wars theme is too limiting in its appeal. I know there are quite a few SW fans out there, but there are also many people who do not like it...like myself. I happen to love villains, but even that theme would be difficult for a theme park I think.

I'd love to see a DisneySea in FL as a 5th gate.

Just remember without a well written Disney Villain, there would be no point in the Heroes and the Princesses. Have you hugged a Disney Villain today?

Re: WDW 5th Gate... a Star Wars theme park!?

And Indiana Jones was distributed by Paramount, who also has their own theme parks. Yet disney still got the awesome rides and stunt show.

But wow a Star Wars park would be like a dream come true!! Of course, it'd be a bit limited to an extent, but there's plenty of ideas to fill up a whoel theme park.

Corruscant would have to be the "hub." It just makes sense. Tattooine with its Mos Eisley cantina would be on the outer edge of the park, or the "outer rim." There would be sopme sort of Beggars canyon roller coaster and a Jabba's Palace dark ride, which would finish off with a face to face encounter with the Rancor staring you down and trying to eat you!

Holy crap... this park would be amazing. Maybe i'll come up with some more ideas. I like where this is going.
