That is so cool! I enjoy traveling by rail along the Northeast Corridor here on Amtrak and have been curious as to how the Auto Train worked.

Thanks so much for sharing these photos. Especially cool to see the cars that hold.. well.. the cars.

How early before departure do they recommend you arrive? I'm certain it takes a bit of time to couple up the cars.

Hey, great report and pictures. I love taking the train places. So relaxing and a great opportunity to "see" the lay of the land. I've even considered taking one from L.A. to Florida. Would be a long, but non-the-less, fantastic trip.

    Thanks for posting this!!!

I took auto train from Florida to DC on my way home from my college program this past January... It was so worth it, even more so because I was driving home myself.... I stayed in a coach seat. The train was not that full at all so I was able to spral out across the two seats, so it was not that bad.

If you are thinking about trying the train, I would say Go for it! SO much better then driving all the way (which I did on the way down with my parents)
Thank You for dropping by my post. I do hope you enjoyed your stay....

The train departs at 4:00 PM every day. They will not accept any cars after 3:00 PM and no vans after 2:00 PM.

I always wanted to try this when I lived in Virginia to go down to Florida and visit. I enjoyed these pictures, thanks so much.

oh yeah... i want to add that I wished that I got one of those DVD players that they rented. I think it would of been money well spent. The system they rent you has about 7-8 different movie choices.... (movies that are out on DVD, a bunch of new releases, and some current favorites). There was a couple my age that had one a couple seats behind me and they looked like they were enjoying it. Can not remember how much it was, but maybe around $25ish for the one way trip plus a credit card number deposit for the system.

As I was alone on my trip and did not have much entertainment (except my 5 year old laptop with a battery that dies in about 2-3 hours). They did play RedEye though in the lounge car twice.
Thank You for dropping by my post. I do hope you enjoyed your stay....
