At approximately 4:30 pm today, April 12th, 2006, while bringing the earth globe out to the lagoon it struck the bridge behind China. The bridge was not fully extended which caused the impact. There was damage visible to the earth globe and after fully raising the bridge, the technicians returned it to the service area to inspect the damage. I don't believe the damage was extremely serious but there was evidence of wires hanging from the globe around the impact area and some minor paint damage was visible on the bridge.
I have to admit it sounds aweful on the video! Scraping metal then twisting and popping sounds and the crowd was saying "whoa whoa Whoa!" I'll be heading back to Epcot tonight to see if there was any serious damage but I suspect the techs will get everything fixed in time for the show.Photos can be seen at that site.
