Thumbs up TDLFAN visits Flower fest at EPCOT (photos)

Hello Everyone... It's me again in one of my legendary "Quality Control Walks" around WDW. This time it was EPCOT's turn, in order to see the results of this year's Flower and Garden Festival, now in it's.. it's...11?? year in a row.. give one or two.

Anyways.. I crashed the park in the late afternoon and the crowds were.. to say the least.. uncrowded, but not slow by all means.

The Festival's theme this year appears to be "Love and Romance", and who could not use some of that from time to time?? Especially most of WDW's APers, right??
So, with that theme in tow, the Horticulture artists at WDW have tried to recreate a romantic atmosphere for the Festival, and by golly! they succeeded!!

The centerpiece topiary, Tunnel of Love, feat. Donald and Daisy is inspired and stunning. It's nice to see Donald getting to play a romantic lead for a chance since it is something Donald does not get to do much in his cartoons. Besides, I am sick of Mickey being in the center of it all and am glad he is relegated to World Showcase this time. Can we do the same with Mr. Weiss?? ..Never mind.

Here is the obligatory pictorial to go along with the "quality control walk", complete with catty comments (you know you love reading those, don't deny it) and enjoy the glory and pageantry of this year's EPCOT Flower Fest. I am amazed they can still find ways to present the same old topiaries and make them look great in new settings!!! Kudos.

    Enjoy the pics.

Thanks TDLFan! I really like the centerpiece of Donald and Daisy. I also like the stream garden. It looks better than last year.

The whole thing looks amazing! I have never been to WDW so the pics are fantastic. Now I want to be there. Thanks.

Re: TDLFAN visits Flower fest at EPCOT (photos)

I used to walk around Epcot wondering what the reason is for all the wide empty spaces. Well, now I know.

Say what you want about Tokyo events, but I think they did a pretty good job here. All that topiary and landscaping blows the doors off the botany displays here at Bellagio and Wynn (the latter uses 100% fake grass btw.) And all this in near sub-tropical atmosphere too. Quite nice.

I'd also like your Monorail skyline shot, but that stupid wand ruins everything. Where are the streams and garden paths anyway? They look to be near that huge Odyssey thing (that I walked too damn far towards just to find a closed area.)

    Very nice. Thanks.

Based on your album I'm willing to bet that this "Quality Control Walk" is quite complimentary.

Epcot looks simply lovely. I enjoy visiting it during the Flower and Garden Festival... so much so that the park looks a bit empty when I see it when the Festival isn't happening.

p.s. the Norway comment.... classic! ....and sadly true...

Beautiful shots. Looks like they did a great job this year. I loved the butterfly house last year. Glad to see it back.

It's amazing what they can do. Everything is absolutely beautiful. I wish they would do something like this at DCA (like the food and wine festival).

Really really stunning. I'd love to visit Epcot for the Flower Festival.
What really caught my attention was the Cinderella and Charming topiarie - beautifully done, I expected a lot from future topiaries but Belle and the Beast looked cheaply done and Bambi was just cheesy. They could have at least done Belle's dress in yellow flowers maybe.

But generally, the park looks totally different in the Festival, and in a good way. A very good way.

Love the photos thanks for sharing! Too bad I won't get to see the festival myself this year, it really looks great.

Really love what they've done around the park (though I think Lady needs to get her ears under control, cuz Tramp is totally saying "wtf, mate?"), but I gotta say I'm not too happy about them changing the entrance loop from the traditional Epcot one to a loop featuring all the classic Disney movie lovesongs...not very Epcotish to me!

Anyone else see the irony in the 13th annual festival having a theme about love?

the beauty of EPCOT's world fair theme is that it's very customizable and flexible to fit special events like that one. If you take in the music with the gardens, it would not matter if its EPOCT-ish or not, it's just plain beautiful.

    *sigh*

One day in my dreams Epcot will be returned to its once beautiful scene without the wand.

Everytime I look at my sig pic I'm reminded of what Epcot was and how tacky it looks now.
