The Globe moved from AGT to its spot in the lagoon but it did not rotate during the entire show. Nor did it open up for the torch.

Oh no! I hope it was just a glitch (okay, maybe a slightly major glitch.....) and that it is fixed soon. I've seen shows where the globe has opened up and not fired, but nothing like this. We'll just have to wait and see.

Hey, weren't there some minor problems with the Globe when you and I saw RoE back in Feb?

The globe had a bit of an accident a short while ago. on the way to being towed into position for the show, it struck the bridge between China and the Africa outpost. While it was not seriously damaged, that could have been a contributing factor. Of course, the globe is getting older and has been in use for quite some time. It probably just needs a good rehab. I'm sure they'll fix it.

The screens weren't on when it was being moved into position. It did work fine once it was in the lagoon. I wouldn't have noticed it had you not said something.

My guess is the motor died?? They don’t usually keep replacement parts for something so sophisticated do they??

It's not time for a replacement. The globe is fine structurally.. just needs new LED displays and new motor... then it might be as good as new....

Does the globe open up to lift a large fireworks launching platform or something?

Yes, it opens up with a torch in the middle, then shoots little blasts of fireworks.
