Re: ? about Journey into Imagination (original)

Out of everything taken away from Epcot, I miss Journey the most ... there was something so uniquely Disney about the whole pavillion that's missing now in this very lame-*** Imagination Institute overlay.

Sorry yes I knew that, I just meant that it was in the area after you got off the ride. So I said exit but I didn't mean that physically it was right there off the exit.

Re: ? about Journey into Imagination (original)

i just saw a ride video of this old favorite of mine, as i said i have very vague memories of it but i saw the ride video

it was interesting to see, it was much less amazing then i remember it being but i suppose that happens to all of us as we grow up, i was unimpressed with it for some reason though, i always thought of it as much bigger...if it was open just a year more i would have remembered it much more, i was only about 7 when they closed it and children really dont remember things until theyre about 8, it was nice to see it and fun to see dreamfinder again...i forced myself to sit through the video, for some reason ride videos online really creep me out so i dont do it often, it really brought back memories of old epcot, i mainly remember the first and last scene, and image works...i was surprised when dreamfinder suddenly went into the scene about science, i dont remember it being there at all, i really remember the nightmare scene, i kindof like how in this new ride it focuses more on the imagination...and that even if it is annoying, nigel does provide a good contrast to figment, where as dreamfinder went along with it and i kindof saw him as a mentor to figment then anything else, the new ride also focuses more on the imagination, but for its time, and the financial hell hole that disney was in at the time...what a difference from haunted mansion that was just 10 years before. i can defidently see its age though and if they ever do bring it back that they should stick with the same story, the same ride if possible, but make the animatronics and audio, music possibly more up to date...

over all it was a nice flash back for me, as i said i remember the first scene being so much more amazing, i always remembered it as a huge planetariam room with stars, and dreamfinder right infront flying along with you...

I think it's a shame that the upstairs Image Works is just sitting up there with no use. The current Image Works just isn't the same.

(if none of you remember that it was there for a few months to a year, it featured a breif appearence by figment and it mostly starred nigel, trivia question about that guy...was he in a movie called wargames a few years back, i watched it recently and recognized him as the scientist)
That's Eric Idle, of Monty Python fame. I love him but can't stand his Dr Nigel Channing character.

Interestingly enough, I have a section of rail from the railroad track where the turntable was that held the scenes.

That turntable was MASSIVE. It took up more than 50% of that building. There used to be a blueprint circulating online which showed the original turntable which is now the loading queue.

Kind of... the turntable is actually still in that building... a lot of the track remained the same. In fact, parts and pieces of the old ride are still back there... the current ride uses a much shorter track.

I miss the old colors of the queue... the blues and purples. I hate what that building/ride have become. I get so sad every time I'm in the shop and see the (poorly hidden) stairs & elevator that takes you upstairs.

if i ever went on the original, i dont remember it. but i adore figment and ive heard the audio from the old ride, and im really, *really* crushed that the ride there now is so ...lacking.

on a positive note. theres a purple wall color in the current queue (in a hallway, and theres silver metal along the bottom) that was the most perfect shade of purple id ever seen. and i spent a year hunting down the color closest to it. and its the color of my room right now. lol.

Re: ? about Journey into Imagination (original)

I did like the original version of the ride a lot, however... seemed to me there were lots of technical problems with the ride vehicles back then... as I remember breaking a lot thru the ride, lots of squeecking noises and basically a very slow moving and sometimes interrupted experience. But let that not deter that it used to be a much better show than what they have now.

Bill you may know this -

So the original was a much longer track, I understand. You would load on the first level and unload upstairs, and exit the pavilion using either that spiral staircase or the elevator, both currently blocked off. My question is - with the current ride so much shorter and presumably following a different path, is it safe to assume that where the original ride ended upstairs is now a big hole in the wall of nothing-ness?

as far as i know the ride started AND ended on the first floor. i rembember the first thing we always did was ride the ride, and then take the glass elevator up to imageworks.

    FWIW...

Mr. JH has an article on his site today about John Lasseter spearheading efforts to get another rehab for JIYI, this time with funding-o-plenty and Tony Baxter leading the project. The latest attempt, if given the green light, would also supposedly resurrect Dreamfinder.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up on this rumor. But golly gee whiz!
