Re: Boy dies after riding Disney rollercoaster

I know that the Florida government is totally in the pocket of the theme parks and doesn't even require a state inspector to look at an accident scene before the ride is greenlighted again the next day, but that kind of loose leash will tighten if this trend keeps up at WDW. Maybe it would be for the better, really.

Won't affect my next visit, but disturbing nonetheless.

It is unfortunate that anyone has to die the way this kid did. But Disney has almost the same amount of accidents/deaths in their parks as most other amusement/theme parks.

No one has said anything about there being a ride accident lets not jump to conclusions. It was a horrible incident and I think I should be left at that until otherwise noted. None of the other incidents were a result of an accident (except the parade costumed character) , just unfortunate occurences which could have happened anywhere really.

California supposedly has a "tight leash" on the amusment parks there, but there have been two deaths caused by Disney at Disneyland. The same cannot be said of the Florida parks.

I only remember the BTMRR incident. What's the other one you're talking about?

    http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbc...GNEWS/60629021

Link has the 911 audio of the call(s).

Kinda suprised this is available, and it is not a great audio.

Sounds like they didnt have the automatic defibrulaters, maybe that will change in the future. It may not have made any difference, only time will tell

There was the girl at Typhoon Lagoon, the four year old on Mission Space, the woman on Mission Space... that's all I can think of from Disney World. Here are the recorded Disneyland deaths (It is an interesting article, but it makes Disney land sound like a murderer, or something, even if most of the deaths were caused by someone doing something stupid.):

Other recent accident at DL was on the Sailing Ship Columbia, some kind of buckle or clasp broke off and swung around striking a guest and CM. The guest died as a result of the injury.

In the press' mind it's "OMG, someone died at disney!I want that story finished ASAP!" but, if someone died at SF their reaction would probably be like "oh my, well that's a bummer. We'll get the facts and have a story for tomorrow's edition." People die at Six Flags, it just never gains national attention unless a ride malfuntions. With Disney any kind of death is front page coverage. At least, that's what I've observed.

Those were related to operation, and WDW has a different operations team than DL and always has.

I'm just saying that it's not unreasonable to expect some interruption and investigation when somebody dies at an amusement/theme park. Florida seems to run on the belief that the private industry is capable of investigating and making judgment calls for itself, which is a rather conservative approach that may change if the people begin to feel that tragic accidents are too common.

I would rather have a tight leash than not. I think every work environment needs a system of checks and balances.

It is quite freaky that all I have been hearning are about people getting hurt or passing away at a Disney park. When it rains it pours.
