What are these houses right behind the MK?

Just clicking around lately.. and noticed there is a set of track homes not far at all from the backstage of MK. Including a set of apartments practically next to the maintanence and other backstage areas of MK.

What are these? Are they disney owned or what? I though the RDI area only had a few dozen 'residents'?

Those are privately owned apartment complexes, with deals for CM's.

Wish they'd had those there when I worked there. Would have made for a VERY easy commute.
Warning: Portions of this attraction are intense and may not be appropriate for younger children.

The links won't work for me with Safari (figures, seeing as it's a Microsoft site). If you're talking about the small amount of houses just north-east of the Magic Kingdom, they are actually the "town" of Lake Beuna Vista. It exists so Disney can claim the town as their own and establish things like a police department, and for tax reasons. They collect taxes as the town, which is one of the reasons the state of FL loves them so much.

I learned all this from one of my friends who talked about it for hours with his real estate (or was it law?) professor at FSU.

StrikerObi might be right on this one. There is an apartment complex right behind the MK CM parking lot, but the link definetely shows houses. I'm not sure if this is Lake Beuna Vista as StrikerObi suggests, but it could be.

Slightly off-topic - the links didn't work for me w/ Safari either, but they do in Firefox.

I used to live in the apartments, they are low income housing and are 99% filled with cast members, the houses right next to them begin the city area of Windermere and are pretty pricey. If you go to the other side of the apartments you will see the new townhome development called the Lakes of Windermere which I believe is now sold out. That entire area is bordering reams road which serves as part of the northern border of WDW property. There are a ton more developments on the way for this road and oneof the parcels of land Disney just sold borders it as well.

Love the 'birds-eye' view of the Windows Live, but is has some bugs and not that fun to navigate...but...back on the subject...I did not realize such real estate existed. Are you guys saying that this area is about to see major development? Just wondering.

I think they meant it was mostly occupied by CMs (as opposed to provided for CMs) due to the favorable location if you are a CM.

Who else would want fireworks going off like that every night?

Disney only 'provides' housing for its College Program participants, and even then its on a weekly rent basis deducted directly from your paycheck.

Right behind Disney MK is an income based apartment complex - many full time employees 'make too much' (LOL) to qualify, and the other housing in the area is mostly townhomes and condos that start around 190,000.

No wonder you're late. Why, this watch is exactly two days slow.
Why is a raven like a writing desk?
Twinkle, twinkle, little bat! How I wonder what you're at.

They dont work in Safari because microsoft has ditched HTML in favour of MSPX or something like that, trying to write their own web standards.

No, MSPX is server side... has nothing to do with HTML. It's poor support of Javascript on both sides of the fence that's causing the issues.
