Take A Spin Over The Magic Kingdom On Skyway...and Reminisce

Enjoy a bird's eye view of Fantasyland and Tomorrowland rides and other attractions from the vantage point of the Skyway. This trek certainly recaptures and brings back some wonderful, fond memories. it opened in 1971 and became a part of Yeasteryear in 1999. The film is dated 1997.

I very much hope that Disney will one day come to its senses and reinstate the long-missed, venerable ride at the Magic Kingdom as well as at Disneyland.

There are two links, Parts 1 and 2. Have fun!

And yes Ridewarrier, they REALLY need to put this thing back. Notably in WDW. It's such an obviously missing ride (with the stations still in place with no changes). They didn't even remove the sign in Tomorrowland, its just blank. Looks kinda tacky, a blank bubble sign on the building.

Also, if Busch can afford to run a Skyway-type ride, so can Disney. Give it some automated loading and unloading to eliminate lazy CM problems, and perhaps windows to eliminiate the problem I never saw of spitting and throwing. It's so simple. They need to put it back. Maybe someday they will.

The roofs are even uglier out east.

Personally, I don't feel it's function was as needed at WDW as it is at DL. Disney just needs to stop leaving corpses of the stations around, which they've done at both parks.

I agree. it should be realitively easy for Disney to modify a new skyride For safety, for the disabled, and to prevent mischief.

Yes, the corpulant remains of the Skyway stations are at Disneyland as well, for all to view and "enjoy". Somebody posted a picture the other day of what looks to be a left behind car that is still at one of the stations.

In a sense they've done it in 3. Granted the Tokyo TL station is now a candy shop but it is still there. Only TDL's FL station is gone.

I like it for the nostalgia...it is missed...and at the same time I'm not overly heartbroken (most of the time).

I just think with today's tech and proper modifications they can make it work definetly...so they should.

I don't think the average guest really cares if they can see ugly roofs because they won't be looking at that. They'll just be enjoying the view up high. Although it might look odd now without the lagoon in Fantasyland, still, it'd be worth putting back the Skyway.

I remember the skyway. The view of overlooking fantasyland and tomorrow land was cool. Also all the lazy people going from point A the point B, then turning around to go back to point A for there stuff. Good chooses of music for the clips. I also miss the lagoon. Pooh’s playground can’t meet with the crystal blue lagoon.

I never got to ride it at MK as I didn't go for the first time until 2001, but I think it's interesting that there was a turn in "track." (And a cast member standing up there--what was that about?!)

Any particular reason that the WDW Skyway closed EXACTLY 5 years after Disneyland's? Both on November 9: Disneyland's in 1994 and WDW's in 1999. The Tokyo one closed on November 3 of '98. Why was every Skyway closed in November?

This does seem rather odd...and they each closed the ride in early November at that. It is off-season for each of the three resorts. The Thanksgiving/Christmas crowds don't become massive until later in the month, and, as far as I know, there are no significant holidays in Japan at this time either.

All of this leads me to believe that Disney may have taken it down then beacause it wasn't peak season. At least this may have been part of the rationale behind the three Skyways closing at about the same time of year. Disney's fiscal accounting year may have played a role as well.

Changing the subject, I'm glad to have helped to recreate some fond memories with this thread. The Skyway lives on in our minds and hearts. Let's hope that the ride finds it's way back some day, in one form or another. The motion and excitement that it created is sorely missed.
