Question Questions on possible WDW trip next year

I haven't been down to Florida since I used to work at WDW, and that was back in 1997. I know there are a LOT of changes that have taken place, and it would be impossible to go over them all. My 2 biggest questions are which hotel is preferable to stay at, and how many days do you need if you haven't been there in forever. I am starting the pre-planning of the trip now, so I know what the whopping expense will be ahead of time. Any advice, suggestions, or comments would be appreciated!

Here is my recommendation for any budget:

Low: Pop Century, the only 1 out of the 4 value that I haven't had trouble at.

Medium: Port Orleans French Quarter, hands down my favorite resort.

High: Beach Club or Boardwalk, great pool, fabulous location, you can't go wrong.

As far as how many days I would recommend them this way:

    MK: 2 days
Epcot: 2 days (some people say 1 for this because if you don't like culture, food and learning things, this is probably a 1 day park for you.)
    MGM: 1 day
    AK: 1 day

So that's 6 days total inside the park, with 1 day you may want to save in the middle to relax and take a breather. If you are a go, go go kind of person then you may not need that extra day, my family sure does.

I think that SummerInFL gave some great suggestions.

I would add that Wilderness Lodge is a another wonderful high end option if you want to stay near the Magic Kingdom.

I would also budget as much as you can to use the full service dining locations. Restaurant experiences are SO much a part of a WDW trip. Don't try to do counter food service that much. You will be missing out.

You might want to use the Disney Dining plan. Although it just changed and dropped some very nice restaurants, over all it is still a good value for what you get and allows you to pay for your meals up front and keep to a budget. (It even included the tip!)

I wholeheartedly concur with SummerInFL's suggestions.
Might I also suggest Fort Wilderness Campground for a low end option, if you are in to outdoorsey life. Of course it will depend on the time of year you visit, but nothing beats camping in Disney World! (reserve now as campsites tend to sell out a year in advance for the summer season)

Also, if you do go for a week, you might want to reserve a day (and night) for Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island. I could (and have) spend all day browsing the stores and shopping there. Then there is Pleasure Island, with all it's nightclubs and comedy clubs, where you can laugh & dance the night away!

    Enjoy your trip!

Wilderness Lodge, Pop, or French Quarter are my three favorite resorts for Deluxe, Value, and Moderate, respectively.

Also, Summer's suggestions are great for amount of days, but I would try to stay an extra day for water parks, relaxation, and maybe one more day to revisit favorite parks/park hop.

I'm guessing with it being expensive that it was the Beach Club. I wish Disney would get out of the habit of similar names. When you say that you stayed in Wilderness, where did you really stay?

Also make sure you get the parkhopper option so you can fully experience all the parks. On the first day we went to AK, Epcot and MK!! Disney parks from 8am-2am!!

AKL is now a favorite...but WL still ranks number one with me. Not cheap...but I think worth every penny. I think six days is enough time to enjoy the parks while still getting enough time to enjoy the 'resort' part of WDW. Have a great time.
