What I miss most from "old" EPCOT

Remember all the lucite (clear plastic) sculptures they used to have? That's one thing I missed terribly when I went back this time.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Re: What I miss most from "old" EPCOT

The old ones on top of the fountain out front were actually up on Ebay a while ago. IT's kind of disheartening to see nostalgic pieces like that turn to collectibles one can't afford to buy. I miss a lot about the old EPCOT, but every once in a while, I walk into a pocket of that warm, fuzzy feeling there again. I think a large part of it has to do with the background music, which really helps the atmosphere, as well as just wandering through several areas and seeing things like the monorail swoop through Future World. It isn't the same, but occassionally that old feeling still comes back.

Not to say the new EPCOT is bad, because it's still park number 2 in my opinion, just not the same as it once was.

I miss the World of Motion and Horizons.

I agree Morrigoon... the front plaza fountain is bland without those sculptures.

Yeah, I miss the lucite sculptures, but I also miss the planters they had in the entry to EPCOT. I never really warmed up to the "Leave a Legacy" as it just looks too depressing and to me, it just blocks the entry too much.

Also, I will be so glad when they finally remove the sculpture (Mickey hand) on the side of Space Ship Earth, I really think SSE stands alone anyway.

    Just MHO, YMMV

I know what you mean. You get that sort of "wow" feeling, and then you see the cracked sidewalks, or the chipped fixtures and it all goes away. But I still think its great, but it could be better.

I would've bought those sculptures if I had the money and room to put them...

I would've bought the monorail cars, too....

I beleive there still is a monorail car at Mouse Surplus that is for sale, whenever you save up enough.

Hmmmm, I don't remember those. When were they removed? Anyone have any pics? Just curious...

I don't remember them either. Would like to see some pics to jog my memory too.

The fountain in the food court made everything so peaceful! Now it seems like an airport to me. I know that's part of the theme, but it loses its peacefulness and tranquility, which was one of the main reasons I loved that pavilion so much.

I managed to find a photo of the lucite sculptures that were once on the EPCOT fountains.

Thanks NatdRat! Now I remember them and the planters. It was a much cleaner look. I miss so much about the old Epcot. I know change is inevitable but if it ain't broke....
