El Rio del Tiempo going under refurb

    El Rio del Tiempo - Closed for refurbishment 1/2/07 - 4/1/07 - reopening 4/2/07

According to Disboards. Why no mention of that here? I assume no changes, but man.. disney must do this kind of stuff on the 'side' to keep it cheap. 3 months to clean/repair a ride? Do they not plan parts and supplies ahead of time and let 2 guys and a dog do the repairs?

Actually, the current rumor is that there IS going to be a change, to the 3 Caballeros. So, that's why the long refurb time. We shall wait and see I guess.

Yes, because I know the first thing I think of when I think of Mexico is Donald Duck. (sarcasm)

Should be cute though with the new overlay, I will reserve judgment for the ride to when I see it.

Even though I actually enjoy how it is now (aka Small World on acid), changing it over to the Three Caballeros could be interesting if they can do it right.

Well, it's not like the ride's going to lose any crowds. When I went during x-mas (worst decision ever!) two years ago, there wasn't even a five minute wait, and this was on christmas eve! I like it, even if it is the most cheesy attraction Disney currently has.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love this attraction to! Honestly, I was kidding with my original comment. I think it will be interesting to see them incorporate the movie into the theme. I never miss this attraction when I go either, its so cheesy, its cute.

The only problem I have with this, as was mentioned on another board, is that how can those 3, Donald, Jose Carioca, a Brazilian parrot, and Panchito, a stereotyped version of Mexico, be used in a ride that's supposed to change the way we view Mexico?

And for the record, I love the original too. And the theme song.

Re: El Rio del Tiempo going under refurb

The only way this could work is to have Panchito to be the star of the attraction.

Donald was merely representative as the tourist.

José Carioca is from Brazil, also representative as a South American tourist to México.

Even if it isn't a bit of an overlay, this is desperately needed! That attraction has needed some major love for a loooooong time. Not only by Disney, but by the guests as well. Donald should be a good way to put some familiarity into the attraction.
