    Park 5

    It is inevitable the Walt Disney Company will open a fifth theme park at Walt Disney World before 2020, a maximum of 2030. As of yet, no plans that the Imagineers may have have been revealed or hinted at, so what do you think?

    The criteria for each idea is;

    1. Three possible names for the park

    2. Five 'lands'

    3. Overall theme

    4. Mini themes

    5. The wienie (i.e Cinderella Castle, Tree of Life)

    6. Three resort hotels that open with the park and their themes

    7. Eight opening attractions, and ideas for future attractions

    I'll start off.

    1.
    a. Disney's Thrill Bay
    b. Disney's Doubledrop Pier
    c. Disney's Thunder Island

    2.
    OK, I'm going with Disney's Thunder Island for the rest of this post. So it is literally an island, but quite large. The island is about the size of the actual Magic Kingdom and Epcot parks put together. It is surrounded by a 300 metre wide 'moat', which guests have to cross on a 'raft' - a much larger version of a Rivers of America raft - or a pirate ship (about the size of a Seven Seas Lagoon steamboat).

    You can also catch the monorail to Thunder Island (the entire monorail track will be reworked, taking guests also to Downtown Disney and Animal Kingdom as well as the three MK resort hotels, MK and Epcot). The 'island' is built so that when the park expands it can be done easily, as the actual park will not take up the whole of the island. There will be buildings for park administration etc.

    So, the five lands. The opening land (i.e Main Street, Hollywood Blvd) will be the Carribean port of St Jennifer's, with lively steel drum music, Carribean food, all centred around a Town Square that will lead to the four lands. The Town Square can be used for character meet and greets, or a show. It will also be the location of the weekly extravagant firework display.

    The second land is the Pirates of the Carribean inspired Los Muertas. The Pirates of the Carribean ride at Magic Kingdom will be closed (scandalous!) and a much more up-to-date ride will open at Los Muertas (under the name of The Black Pearl), part-rollercoaster, part-dark ride, like Journey to Atlantis, but much more extravagant. The land will be transformed at dusk, with the moonlight curse from PotC movies taking over. The removal of PotC from MK makes the ride at Disneyland even more exclusive (pleasing DL fans along the way!).

    The third land is Mount Olympus, with characters from Hercules roaming the streets. Chariots of Fire is a Hercules-inspired rollercoaster, surrounding the entire land - with a top speed higher than Rock n Rollercoaster. Hellfire is the lively jazz-inspired stageshow featuring Hades and a host of Disney villains, with the Gospels as backing singers :P. Cupid's Lonely Hearts is a ride based on Buzz Lightyear, with points for shooting as many hearts as you can - the hearts belonging to a cast of over 100 Disney characters.

    Land Four is called Mermaid Lagoon. With inspiration from ML at Tokyo Disneysea (but obviously less extravagant - I'm thinking realisticly here, Disney won't allow a budget as big as Oriental), a ride taking advantage of the surrounding moat based on the 20,000 Leagues sub ride takes center place. The Ariel's Grotto at Magic Kingdom will be transformed into a mini Villain area, and a much more extravagant Ariel's Grotto will open at Mermaid Lagoon, with Ariel, Triton and Ursula meet and greets and a mini family coaster - Jetsam vs Flotsam. Inside a Triton's Castle facade is a water play area (ala Universal Studios Curious George).

    The fifth land is Mickey's Toontown Bay. Mickey and the Gang go on holiday from their home in Disneyland (or Magic Kingdom whatever way you see it). A water/beach/holiday version of Toontown/Toontown Fair - yes I know, not very original, but since when have Disney been original? (well in later years anyway)

    3.
    The overall theme is of an island, with each of the lands connected to water in some way.

    4.
    Los Muertas is PotC, Mount Olympus is Hercules, Mermaid Lagoon is The Little Mermaid.

    5.
    OK, forget the pirate ship. The Watchtower is the symbol of Thunder Island, at night it is transformed into an ancient light house, it's glare watching over Thunder Island. The tower is inscribed with ancient runes etc, and at the base is a dome which inside the floor is covered in ruins which light up at night.

    6.
    Around the moat are three hotel resorts. One value, one moderate, one deluxe.
    Value: Mediterraenean Harbour - Crab Lagoon.
    Moderate: Mediterraenean Harbour - Italia Ridge.
    Deluxe: Disney's Thunder Island Pirate Lagoon - special access to Los Muertas for guests.

    7.
    I will come back to this.

    e)World Harbour

    3. Overall theme

    -c)Destiny Islands is themed to the area from the Kingdom Hearts games and would be another Fantasyland type land.

    -d)The Lost World is the Adventureland of the park and would be based on not only Dinosaurs but a lot of the great literary legends like a lot of the Jules Verne novels and the conan doyle novels

    As an Imagineer in training (in my mind) for years....here goes...

    Parks

    * Disney's Tragic Kingdom
    * Disney Planet

    Tragic Kingdom

    There have been rumors of plans for a park like this actually exsisting. The problem being that a all Disney Villians park, as vogue as it may seem, is a bit of a stretch. I think it can be fun if handled properly, like having the overall theme of the villians having a open house where they are mischevious, yet on good behavior...or having rides where the villian is, of course, out to get ya'...but always comes up short in the end because, hey, they're bad guys. That said...

    Lands

    1. Pirates Cove (Darker Neverland/Adventureland)
    * Captain Hook's Ship - Play area
    * Smee's Cove Boat Excursions - a "river rapids" ride that starts off quaint but then ends up with the rider totally soggy. Hee...gotcha mates!
    * Neverland Tours - The pirates have rigged together a "pixiedust-less" way to fly over the Cove, which looks like a rickity rail cart with palm-tree wings gliding on a overhead track (think Islands of Adventure's Teradactyle (sp?) Flyers).

    2. Underworld (Vegas-meets-Hades' lair)
    * Hades' Underworld Tour - a fun, zippy dark ride through the Underworld, with Hades messing with tourists, but timely help arives from Hercules. The ride would have sudden drops and last minute turns like the Indiana Jones ride @ Disneyland.
    * Club Styx - Hades ode to decadence with a Vegas-type Resort rip off featuring a restaurant and a humorous boat ride spoofing a well known Fantasyland boat ride (hmmm...). It's an evil world after alllll...heh.

    3. Discovery Isle (stolen from Disney Sea...I know)
    * Same rides as at Tokyo Disneysea area (20,000 leagues & Journey to the Center of the Earth). Capt. Nemo is the primary villian here...unseen, but presence felt.

    4. Dark Carnivale (A twisted Fantasyland) - Where the assorted Disney Villians come to throw guests a big carnival bash. Hey, they're not such bad guys...
    * Cruella's Wild Ride - a tribute to "Mr. Toad," no longer @ WDW. Guests race through the streets of London, through Cruella's studios, and maybe even chase a dalmation or two through the countryside. But we all know Cruella's adventure doesn't end well.
    * Mr. Oogy Boogy's Musical A-Go-Go - A wild 3D/4D movie with a spin. Not only will you find the usual water effects, smoke, etc, but with the power of Oogy's roulette wheel, he will literally make the audience spin 360 degrees, where there is not only one screen but two screens (each side of the theatre) where the action takes place. It will make you scream with delight and song!

    The wiene/centerpiece would be either a Volcano/"Mt. Doom," like @ Disney Sea or a twisted/curvy/"Nightmare Before Christmas"-like Castle. Everything would be like a bizaro-world Magic Kingdom. The "Main Street" I'm thinking will be like a Main Street/Frontierland rip off called Ghost Town Square which will look like a western/main street ghost town...a bit run down, a bit "tourist trap tacky."

    Thats all I can do tonight. I'll elaborate on Disney Planet in my next post!

    with two parks that need quite a bit added to them and another that Disney keeps insisting on giving a makeover

    I don't quite see a 5th park being inevitable (how long can you get people to stay somewere on vacation the place already takes a week? to get through the biggest stuff)

    I'll go with 2030 as the date for something like this to be thought up (seriously I can see Tokyo and Disneyland Anihiem expanding before Disneyworld would need another entire park)

    interesting ideas though

    The 5th park has been on the drawing boards for a while. It is planned as Steel City with all Steel Roller Coasters. The real 5th park is all ready open here in Orlando. It is call Universal's Islands of Adventure. The park was built by Disney imagineers.

    Hey Skyway! Ha! that was so funny I forgot to laugh with the exception of that first ha.

    Seriously though, Islands of Adventure is the best non-Disney theme park out there, although it is better than DCA.
