[TR] Some bonehead at Team Disney should be fired...

Hey guys, we've been here at WDW for about 24hrs now and the trip has been fairly good despite the weather not cooperating and only visiting Epcot and MGM. But tonight all hell broke loose.

After a busy press day, MK closed at 5:30 tonight for that darn P&PP. No park was kept open later with EMH. The result? Tons of demand and little supply at dinnertime. EVERYTHING was packed, absurdly so. Why didn't anyone at Disney see what was going to happen here? Even my first-timer party saw this without me having to explain it. Hello!? I only got dinner because a CM at the DTD boat dock reccomended we boat over to Saratoga Springs and eat there.

Also, on an unrelated note, World Showcase needs some LIGHT. It's almost impossible to see where you're going at night.

Epcot didn't have EMH tonight? I had thought about going to Epcot around 6 or 7 but saw it on the EMH schedule at Disney's site and the Walt Disney World Entertainment site and decided not to go. Plus tonight was a new episode of Smallville. I try to always avoid whichever park has EMH in the evenings. To me it always seems alot more crowded 1-2 hours before the EMH starts.

With the above said, I have a question. The Disney Parks Planning DVD I have tells us numerous times how much of a benefit the Extra Magic Hours are, that when the general public goes home, hotel resort guests can experience the park with little wait times. Now, when I think of "hotel resort guests" I'm thinking of A LOT of people, since Disney World has dozens of hotels and if everyone decided to "take advantage" of this resort offer, wouldn't the selected park be just as crowded? From all the Florida residents perspective, is really worth it going to EMH? Which one is better, morning or nights? I'm going this December and I know my family will want to take advantage of this.

If you're going during peak season it doesn't matter. You can either plan your days by the EMH and go to whichever park is doing them that day, or you can go to the park that isn't doing EMH each day. There'll also be a park open late enough by comparison to the EMH and there'll be the extra shows and such still because it's peak season.

think of it this way.. one park open late and all the hotel guests at that one park. it gets as crowded during emh as it does during the day. We went to a Mk emh last fall and it was over an hour wait for splash mountain or big thunder. same when we went to epcot for test track. while it's a great idea in theory, in practice you really don't get alot out of it.

They closed the MK at 5:30?!??!

It was scheduled for 6:30, which is early but not crazy early as normal would have been 7.

I did notice (and mention in another thread) the no EMH tonight, while apparently Epcot was open last night until midnight for EMH despite the press opening of Nemo instead of its normal Friday night ... which is strange.

That is terrible planning on Team Disney's part, though.

InoverherheadMeg and her minions should be putting the paying customer first, not the free-loading press, consultants and VIPs.

    Bad show.

What did you think of the food at SS? And did you do Artist's Palette or Turf Club?

Nah. You're just getting old! It's called mood lighting and if anything, they've made it too bright over the past decade. ... Unless some lights weren't functional.

Dark is walking thru some of the queues, especially PoC and Space Mtn at DLP ... that's dark. And I'm still not complaining.

We did EMH at Epcot last night and the park was a ghost town. It was so nice. The coolest thing was that our kids got to meet and take pics with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Baloo, and Chip and Dale. No lines, no wait, no problems. So we got all the main characters taken care of in a total of 5 minutes. If you're a parent of small children, you understand how nice it is to have that part of the deal checked off your to-do list! EMH was worth it just for that!

My only complaint- no frickin dining. It was cool walking thru an empty World Showcase, but it would be nice if at least a couple eating establishments would have stayed open.

MK DID NOT close at 5:30. It closed at 6:30. And it was not for the P&P party...party number 2 is tonight. It was closed for the media event.

That's very unusual. Epcot usually has most of its quick serve and full serve open during EMH at night ... at least until 11.

Of course, it's also unusual that Disney would move Epcot's EMH night from Friday to Wednesday (usually DAK's), especially when hosting a media party at the same time.

Bad planning all the way around.

Even with the Press Event, the parks have not ben very busy this week. I cannot believe it was THAT hard to find a place to eat anywhere on property that night. The crowds this time of year are far below the normal summer or even springtime crowds.

What I do believe is this, there might not have been a place at his particular hotel at the particular restaurant he wanted to at in at the particular time he wanted to eat. Therefore there is absolutely no place to eat. Having worked at Disney for several years, we see this all the time.

Thank you! And you know me, it's hard to get me to complain. I'm the apologist. But golly, this was embarassing!

What did you think of the food at SS? And did you do Artist's Palette or Turf Club?
Turf Club. I had a cheeseburger, which was better than counter service Disneyburgers I make fun of a lot and about average with your typical casino cafe burger back home.

BTW, I'll update fully later but I've done more table service stuff this time and I agree the food here is very good, although dining plan and the way everyone books stuff up at dinner even in this "off season" at dinner is frustrating.

Nah. You're just getting old! It's called mood lighting and if anything, they've made it too bright over the past decade. ... Unless some lights weren't functional.
Sorry, but I've got to disagree. Look at the spread of the light coming from those lights. They barely cover an area immediately around it. Meanwhile, look at the pathway from Boardwalk to the bridge, where they have similar lights but the light spreads all the way across the pathway.

Walking through WS at night is like walking in the total darkness with shadows coming at you. That's dangerous when those shadows are slightly tipsy and/or armed with strollers.

It's not just the press event, it's the number of people who have only DTD + Epcot to go to and the fact that so much of Epcot (i.e. World Showcase) seems poorly prepared for evening dining AND the convention business as well. Fun story: We went to the United Kingdom for the fish & chip hut that I tried once last visit, and their whole dining area by the lake has no light whatsoever. So you'd be eating in the dark. And the woman at the dining area told me I had to finish in 30 minutes because some convention group had reserved the whole area to go ahead and eat in the dark themselves. This was 2 hours before IllumiNations so I doubt it was seating for that.

    Anyway, off to Everest!
