    Re: Carousel Of Progress question.

The WDW Carousel is not the one I remember at Disneyland. For one thing, at the end of the show in DL the audience would ride a ramp upstairs to view a model city before exiting on the upper level. (There's no upper level at WDW.) And they changed the audio leaving out the many references to General Electric. The voice actors aren't even the same.

If they moved the carousel from DL to WDW, it was only the animatronics. The building stayed behind and was redesigned into America Sings.

But even with all the changes, the WDW version still pays homage to the original, and it's definitely worth seeing.
Have bicycle, will ride. Finished 2012 with 10,089 miles, 683 hours, and 482,000 feet of elevation gain.
So far in 2013: 3126 miles, 209 hours, 206K feet.

If you ride the PeopleMover (or whatever it's really called at WDW) you can see part (half, actually) of Progress City which is the model city you remember from CoP at DL.

The last scene of CoP at WDW was updated from the DL version but, otherwise, the rest is generally the same.

Trivia question: name all of the dogs in CoP.

Tomorrowland Transit Authority is their version. I hope to see it soon.

Psst.. Wedway People Mover.. I just can't think of it any other way.

The Carousel is always open everytime I go which is about once a month. It's a must see for my family too everytime we go, just Classic Disney IMHO.

When you visit let me know and we can ride it together.

I was born in 1968 and I remember more of the show portion at DL. I don't remember the upstairs part with the model city, and I wish I did. I know it was there because in old pictures of the building they show both levels being used, which didn't happen after America Sings was put in.

Wow, I might have to check it out. I barely remember the original at Disneyland, I wonder if it would come back to me if I saw this one. Although, I think it would be the voices that do it, if they aren't the same voices it might be too different to trigger the memories.

And They have a People Mover type ride? Is it pretty much the same as the People Mover? Someone said you have to buy tickets to it, is it extra?

WDW has the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, which is pretty much the Peoplemover, which passes by Walt Disney's "Prototype Community of Tomorrow" and through out Tomorrowland, in and out of various attractions (even the possibility of seeing Space Mountain with the lights on if it's 101) and no extra tickets are required, just hop on the escalator under Rocket Tower Plaza and away you go and is perhaps the best get off your feet and ride a while ride on property.

Also, The Carrousel of Progress is basically the same show as the old Disneyland/World's Fair version, minus the city of the future models at the end, the last scene where it shows the "modern family", the lack of General Electric mentions, and the voices. Even though it did for a while have a "Best Time of Your Life" version, it is now more reserved on the same level as Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room. But they do have a couple tributes to the original in the current show, such as Cousin Orville, whose voice has not changed and the voice of Grandpa in the final scene is actually the voice of the original COP Father.

I could not agree more. There is allmost never a line for it either and its a good long ride and you get views of the whole land.

If we are in Tomorrowland and feel like taking a break, we ride the People Mover - not sit on a bench.

I had NO idea about the TTA. When I opened it's link at the WDW website after I saw this thread, I literally teared up! I am more excited about it than anything else right now!

The Carrousel of Progress has actually been operating regularly since Alien Encounter went down. It's a classic, no doubt about it.

And the TTA, or the WedWay Peoplemover rocks! But I do miss the old host sometimes. "Hi this is ORAC 1...you might say I'm sort of a commuter computer...."

I have heard during off seasons (if there is such thing as a slow down period.) I know this sounds crazy, but I would be thrilled to see this attraction. I realize it is a bit dated, but it was one of Walt's projects. And I don't want to miss it.

Many Banthams could die if I don't acquire this information.

Or should I check the site?
the thing is, i believe, that walt disney never wanted this ride to be enhanced, changed, or taken from the park. This is one ride that has an exception, so no matter how unpopular the ride will become, it will always be open except for refurbishments. It does sometimes close during events like halloween hours. why?? go figure, but that ride is always open, and will never be gone

Yes, they took it OFF of that "seasonal" status, even though it wasn't official with Timekeeper getting the boot.

While crowds are often minimal for this attraction, the attraction sees spikes of attendance during the peak seasons and rainy seasons. It rains a lot in Florida and many visit during the warm summer months, week of Thanksgiving/Christmas, and spring break weeks. So the low attendance of the spring and fall balance it out. While WDI is often viewed and thought of concepts to update the final scene they don't exactly have a reason to just yet. Disney Fans ride it because they enjoy it, it's a classic (and Walt) attraction, and they don't want to see it leave the park. Regular guests ride it, especially during the peak times because the wait time is short, it's an attraction many went on as kids and they want their kids to see it at least once, you get to sit in the AC/with no rain, etc. Between both of these reasons, it isn't exactly going anywhere soon and for that I'm glad.

Aww... you will have so much fun on that thing! It's a bit different than Disneyland's too, but still great.

    Re: Carousel Of Progress question.

When i was a kid, one of my favorite things to do at DL was to stand at the Progress City diorama after riding COP. I wanted to live there so badly.

I also wanted to live on the oil islands that are designed to look like apartments in Long Beach Harbor.

And, I wanted to drive a Hot Wheel.
