Re: Wand VS Hat: If you could only get rid of one...

There's a reason Sleeping Beauty Castle does not look as much like Neuschwanstein. If you look at the original drawings, the top Sleeping Beauty Castle is built "backwards". What is now the front was originally the back of the castle.

I think using a replica of the Chinese Theater was a wise idea. The Chinese Theater is a very strong part of the Hollywood that never was. While a new design might of been good, I don't think it would be as strong.

Thus the term 'inspiration.' Carbon Copy ? Inspiration. Here's another pic of Neuschwanstein Castle. Still think they look exactly alike? How about this, this or this?
Yes, I do, head on, yes, very close.

Cool Re: Wand VS Hat: If you could only get rid of one...

Sid Grauman opened the place, when it sold to Mann's they tried to rename it Mann's Chinese but mostly thanks to Lucy reruns I imagine, people just kept coming West to visit Grauman's Chinese. So when the subway and Hollywood/Highland (H/H) development went in, you got the rebirth of (Mann's) Grauman's Chinese and adjacent Mann's Chinese 6 plex in H/H.

The FL copy is circa 1990, with the red paint. In 2001, H/H and the Kodak Theater went in next door and the Chinese underwent a dramatic restoration/remodel resulting in the current orange paint job. That's about the time they removed the palm trees...

I think they were trying to restore it to the early years...

The palm trees and awning just get in the way when they need to host a premiere or special event. Not sure if the original colors were red or orange though.

Re: Wand VS Hat: If you could only get rid of one...

I think the whole point of the Hat being a bad addition, is that it conflicts with the '30s Hollywood theme of the Blvd and obscures the theater that does fit with the theme. Building something else besides the theater that has nothing to do with that theme smack dab in middle of it all would just be the Hat all over again. It's supposed to look like the real theater. It's supposed to look like classic Hollywood. What better symbol for a park themed in motion pictures, then the hub of classic motion pictures and one of the most popular theaters of that city in its day?

This isn't the Magic Kingdom where the Castle is a gateways to markedly different lands. This is a movie themed environment with the theater punctuating the theme of the main street. The theater symbolized movies in their heyday and meshes with the rest of the street, which I don't know if anyone noticed, is also a bunch of replicas of actual buildings. This isn't any different then the theming going on in World Showcase. Those building aren't diminished because their replicas of the originals, are they?

Wand, without a doubt the wand. It just ruins one of the coolest and most original structures in any Disney park (SSE).

Tear down the wand and return SSE to being itself - as for the hat - just move it to one of the many open / underutilized areas of the Studios - the hat itself is not the issue, the placement is the issue
