ORLANDO, Fla. -- A lien has been filed against the crown jewel of Disney's Magic Kingdom -- Cinderella's Castle -- Local 6 News reported Thursday.I got a big kick out of this story. One of my professional claims for fame back in the day was when I got a foreclosure JUDGMENT against the San Diego Zoo on precisely the same kind of lien. These rarely go to judgment. In my case, the Zoo paid the judgment right away, so we we're never able to actually sell the property.
Specialty Products and Insulation told Local 6 News that it's owed money for materials that they provided for the castle's recent makeover.
To ensure that a contractor will pay them, the company filed a construction lien for $3,984.87 against Magic Kingdom Cinderella's Castle.
Disney officials told Local 6 News that the subcontractor in this instance had no legal right to stake a claim on Cinderella's Castle, and the lien is in the process of being withdrawn.
Here, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the lien is perfectly valid, but Disney or the contractor can bond around it, and Disney has every right to demand that the general contractor pay this supplier immediately and sue the supplier separately if it thinks the money isn't due.
